I hate this * tournament. CHAMPIONS league. The clue is in the name. It should only be for CHAMPIONS. Why can teams form big countries that finish FOURTH be allowed in it.

Keep the Champions league for Champions, and the Europa League for everybody else.

We haven't won the league for 2 years now, we only deserve to be in the europa league.

    Anybody else agree???

I agree but the tournaments would be watered down with far less top quality clubs involved which would lose a lot of it's attraction..

Likewise I'd like to see the only teams in the Europa cup be the ones who enter at the qualifying or first group stages rather than clubs being given a 2nd shot at cup glory after failing in the Champions League earlier that season , even though that would deprive clubs like ourselves from the Seville season , and the huns their Manchester rioting season..

Money talks and thats why ,England ,Spain ,Italy ,Germany all have 3 entering the groups stages and one qualifying ,i dont think it would be the same if it was only one from each country that got in ,but the name is annoying .

Fair enough we had a rough campaign but to suggest that only champions should be involved with the champions league is ludacris.

So what your saying is the likes of Real madrid/Arsenal/Man utd etc do not deserve to be in the champions league because they are not champions?? What a load of nonsense m8 :38:

A true "Champions" league would be really really tame with 4 or 5 teams being outrageously overpowered compared to the other 20 odd teams.

Also there would be barely any pull from sponsors or tv money for a tournament where often you might be able to pick the winner from day 1.

Not saying its fair but its unrealistic to think someone could run a "Champions" League.

I also think Celtic given last seasons awful performance are where they should be - having to face tough qualifications.

No- it should be Champions for all European teams. Stop England and Spain getting too many teams in too!

i went for no as well - the tournament really ought to be the champions in every country that are part of Uefa. Its ridiculous that the Lithuanian Champs need to play 4 qualifying rounds when the 4th placed team in England play 1. Soon Scotland won't even have their Champions in it whilst England, Spain etc get 3-4 teams each year. Even the new play-off qualification set-up is to help ensure the bigger teams get in.

the solution to this in the real world is renaming it the european cup again, rather than the champions league. It's just a name for the toury really

Voted yes but should have abstained. If we get in through the qualifiers then yes. If not then no. Simple as that.

After the season we've had no, we don't DESERVE to be in the champions league. So the answer to the OP in my opinion is no.
But to be part of the champions league is great for the fans, the club & the players. If only for the experiance & to test our capabilities.
I think the best we can hope for is a few good performances at this stage & hopefully not being pumped in the qualifiers!

Under the current rules, yes we deserve to be there as we finished in a position that makes us entitled to be there.

But i think it is a farce of a competition now, take it back to the way it used to be,winners of the league only, but that will never happen because money runs football these days.

Don't think there'd be enough teams for a decent Champions Leauge (ie current format with just champions in it). It would have to go back to a straight knockout and no one would have that.

So as it is, yes we do deserve to be in it, it's just the competiton has a bit of a silly name.

Of course we don't, we don't ever deserve the league, nevermind CL.

I voted no as we don't deserve to be in it in my opinion. The reason we don't deserve to be in it is because we currently have a * team that plays in a * league and are not going to contribute much on that stage.

However, the argument that keep the Champions League for Champions and everyone else go into the Europa Leaue would result in the Europa League being the far stronger competition. Next year's Champions :eague would have (probably) Chelsea, Barca, Inter, Bayern, Marseille. And then a load of teams that have no draw, no star attractions and the competition would be terrible until the last four. The Europa League would have Real Madrid, Man U, Arsenal, Valencia, Sevilla, Werder Bremen, Spurs, Roma, AC Milan: I know which competition I would rather watch.

The Champions League is for Europe's elite teams. I appreciate there might be an issue with the semantics, as it is not necessarily full of Championship winning sides but it undeniably full of the best sides in Europe. Unfortunately, and for the forseeable future, it could be a while before we may bracket ourselves as a such a side.
