I think if Dermot Desmond was in it for the money he wouldnt be at Celtic or involved in Scottish Football.
He is a very wealthy man and if he pushed his weight around he could land most teams that are involved in the EPL and make a few quid from it ,so i dont think its ever been money with him at Celtic.

    agree!
the problem is he has over £1billion and murray owes nearly as much,
they are 1st and we are second.
if he would be just a little bit closer to us rather than swaning off to the
masters without a care in the world people would believe his heart is in it.
just 4 months interest from his money would get us three real players
and out the *(and a decent manager of course).
no buisnessman at his level is going to throw money away but he would get it
back once we win the league a couple of times

In terms of investment Celtic is a black hole. If you put in £Xmillion it will disappear.

DD didn't get to where he is in the business world by throwing away millions, in fact you'd have to be pretty idiotic to do that.

I'm pretty sure he's contributed an acceptable amount already.

I know it's easy for us to sit here and berate the Billionaire and moan about how if we were as rich as him we wouldn't be slow in pumping in multi-million pounds. I understand he is a business man first and isn't going to throw money at us, but surely as a business man he would be willing to give us a low interest loan to the tune of 20-25 million. The money making potential at Celtic is huge and I have no doubts he would have his money back with interest within 4-5 years along with a few League titles, Scottish Cups and a decent showing in Europe. Cmon Desmond show some faith and put some decent money into the club.

i heard when DD recieves his preferential dividends he gives them straight back to the club, he only takes them as a formality. dont whether its true or not but thats what i heard.

So what if 'Champagne Charlie' has got this right? *, its not like this is some amazing insightful commentry on our current plight, rather echoing precisely what we already knew. Talk about stating the obvious.

The better question would be when the * has he said anything positive about Celtic? Never. He is just a complete chopstick.

Lennon is right about him, he hasn't seen him walk through Celtic doors in the ten years he's been there and that says a lot for a person who constantly slags Celtic and Scottish football in general.

There might be an ounce of truth in what he says but it's something we've known for some time now and all Charlie is doing is getting a bit of publicity for himself.

Thank You - at last a rational post about the board.

It's so EASY to tell other people to spend their money on your club! Why don't all the anti-board moaners volunteer to pay 150% of the asking price of their season tickets - lead by example why don't you. :50:

We're extremely lucky to have shareholders who are supporters. FFS look at the mess Man U and Liverpool are in because of foreigners buying a product in order to turn a personal profit. Man U are 700 MILLION in debt because RICH INVESTORS bought the club. They must be * themselves at the prospect of UEFA insisting that all clubs balance their books. It's only when the authorities insist on this that all European teams will be back on a level playing field.

Read Lenny's reply that that chump Nicholas: a breath of fresh air to blow away the odor of OLD FART
Neil Lennon hits out at Charlie Nicholas for blaming board for Celtic?s season of woe - Herald Scotland | Sport | SPL | Celtic

On another thread someone (who sounded like they knew what they were talking about) suggested that DD had invested about 90 million in Celtic. If he's a billionaire then that probably does represent 5% of his income...

i still cant understand if your a billionaire why cant you put 10-15 mil in the club every season if needed especialy if your a celtic fan , if i were a billionaire i would plug in 30 mill and let them take my billionaire intrest every year , i mean he is not going skint any time soon is he !
also would it not benefit us to the english game if we were getting that kind of income annualy ?

exactly...he is a billionaire, yet scared to invest a few million. I mean even if he spent 100 million on Celtic, it will be just a few decimal places on his bank book. He probably would still never spend the rest of his billions in his lifetime anyways. But having said that, would you want to give away your money without any chance of a return...

First and foremost he's a business man, any financial advisor would tell you that it would be a poor investment choice to put in a few million into a Scottish Football Club as the chances of making a profit on that investment is slim to none, yet despite this DD did invest in Celtic and his investment cost him around the £87million just shy of the £90million I mentioned in an earlier post.

You hit the nail on the head with your last bit, why should he give his money away for nothing, we buy merchandise, season tickets etc and we get something in return, the emotions of following Celtic we chose how much we put in, what right do any of us have to say he hasn't put enough of his own money into Celtic?

If I had one complaint about him it's that I would like to see our major shareholder attend the AGM, I know he sends a representive to board meetings but I'd like to see him go the AGM's every year.

the voice of reason!!! :50: sure we all want to see more investment but it is very easy for us to slate a billionaire, but he didnt become one by throwing away millions on a whim

It wouldn't matter how much DD or anyone else who is perceived as 'rich' contributed the people who repeatedly bleat about him not contributing enough would never be satisfied.

It's an old joke but a true one nonetheless:

Q: How do you make a small fortune from investing in a football club?
A: Start by investing a large fortune.
