well who could have forseen the wheels coming off our celtic express so spectacularly..........well.....me.
because we've been down this road before.

liverpool after seasons of mediocrity got to the uefa cup final and won it.
from a position of strength they strengthened and a few short years later they won the champions league.

porto won the uefa cup and then strengthened and won the champions league.

celtic in the late eighties failed to allow billy to strengthen his centenary squad...we festered and rangers got the nine.

celtic under o'neil were a magnificent side that got to seville and lost.
we failed to strengthen to get us over the line in forthcoming seasons and that side finally grew old and lost its grip.

strachans celtic got to the last sixteen of the champions league and failed to strengthen with quality and strengthend in numbers with no quality.

mowbray was third choice manager, and was given a nominal budget and he turned a confident steady football team, into an unsteady fearfull calamity of a team. he dismantled a squad of players on contracts for a squad of mercenaries on short term loan deals. but for the inclusion of the too little too late robbie keane, we'd be as well locking the doors and turning off the lights.

we now have a chance to rebuild with the seasons end.
this time we need to get the right manager ( not the necessarily the former player )
and we need to furnish him with a budget that allows him to build a team for success in the present not in some mythological future were theres a pot at the end of the rainbow.

hope is all we have at the minute until the cub come out and announce the new man. i do believe if its to be lenny they should just give him it......can we really judge him properly now that there is nothing to play for but pride.

    You'll never walk alone
the board should do everything possible to get the right man just like they did with MON they have to let the manager control the whole team and decide who comes in and who goes out and just like when O'neil came the new man needs a substantial amount of money to build his team.

It won't matter a jot who walks in and gets to sit in the manager's office. If the board don't back him with a serious cash injection then we're set for more of the same tripe we've had to put up with over the last few seasons.

This isn't a time for the board to be patting themselves on the back while fawning over the balance sheets, it's a time for investment.....serious investment at that. If we don't see it we should all be prepared to be supporting a team of also rans who fight for second or third place in the SPL and struggle to win a single trophy in a season.

we need the board to back this new manager to the hilt with good cash! if not then it could be yet again another bleak season!

I wholeheartedly agree. If the board dont put their hands deep into their pockets we are really going to struggle for the foreseeable future. There is no way that group of players are good enough to mount a serious challenge in the coming seasons and so change a plenty is needed! Lets all pray it happens though, because im afraid it might not! :54:

I remember the day when Mowbray arrived and being disgusted, all that fantasizing stuff left me open mouthed and aghast,no one could seriously buy into the * he was flogging. its hardly surprising the stadium has been half empty at times.
Lennon for me talks the talk,no bullshit just the way it should be,is he perhaps too young to gain the respect from the whole team ? yeah maybe but if he is allowed to stay on and the board back him then Im sure he'll add steel and determination, the stuff thats been lacking of late,Id also like to see him bring in another Celtic man of the same ilk in Big Roy Aitken who has done well at Villa and Birmingham, try and give the jumper some meaning to the mercenaries.

I dont think we will get any serious investment, we did with MON because DD believed there was a real chance that we could get into the EPL.

Now that looks further than ever from happening i dont see him spending any serious cash.
