Willie McStay returning to Celtic after resigning from Hungarian side

Apr 5 2010 Exclusive by Anthony Haggerty
WILLIE McSTAY has quit his post as boss of Ujpest Dosza and is on his way back to Celtic.
Record Sport understands McStay resigned last night over a cash crisis at the Hungarian club that has seen players go without wages since January.
The club's money woes are so bad some stars have been forced to sell their cars to buy food.
McStay joined Ujpest at the start of the season as head coach in a bid by Celtic to create an exchange programme for young players .
The former Celtic full-back has taken his young side to second in the league and the last four of the Hungarian Cup.
However, things turned sour with a change in the hierarchy and the resignation of the sporting director.
A source at Ujpest said: "He did a fantastic job trying to keep it all together but the last straw for Willie came when the players weren't paid and one or two were forced to sell their cars to buy food to feed their families.
"Willie was working under intolerable circumstances and extreme pressures which no boss should have to endure."
Record Sport understands McStay could assist interim boss Neil Lennon.

I believe either he or lennon will get the job next season as celtic are looking to appoint someone internally so they dont have to pay out for a new gaffer as these two are still under contract(probably on peanuts)...any thoughts?:50:

McStay was my number 1 choice when it was announced that WGS was leaving.

I really hope he get's the job and keeps Lennon in the dugout with him.

fair enough for the rest of the season but I am not interested in people with only a year or two of management at a decent level just because he was once a Celtic player. There are literally 100s of people with more on their CVs than Lenny or McStay.

It will be good to have him back.
Mc Stay, Lennon and Mjallby in the dugout till the end of the season maybe?

Unless Celtic have other plans for him that is.

Big TM had more on his CV than lennon & Mcstay put 2gether - that didn't work out.

Glad to see him back tbh, but as for him or Lennon being manager? Not yet, the club needs experience at the moment, the board can't afford to gamble.

if lennon keeps things going the way they are and steadys the ship then him, mcstay and mjallby will be our management team which i think would be great..

maybe they dont have the experience that other managers, who have been mentioned have, but they all have a complete love for the club and they know what it takes to play for celtic..

i might be wrong but i honestly think this will happen.. it may be a gamble but one certainly worth taking..

aye but tony didn't show the passion that lennon shows just sat there lifeless on the bench and said "we'll have to take it on the chin":31:

Couldn't agree more. We do need experience but if rumours are correct then I would rather have Lenny in charge than Nigel Pearson

bringing in any manager is a gamble . who to say that lennon will not become one of the greatest managers ever and we let him go. its all a gamble. Lennon has a good chance as any.

Firstly, he does not have a contract with Celtic. He had to quit his previous contract to get the Ujpest job; UEFA didn't allow us to "loan" a manager out.

Secondly, neither he nor Lennon should be appointed long-term. Yes, every appointment is a gamble, but it's far less of a gamble to appoint someone with experience and a succesful track record at a high level. Lennon and McStay have no experience at the top level.

i rekon celtic will give the job to lenny and have Mcstay as the assisant manager to give lenny moral support and advice! i have not seen passion from the last two managers lenny is showing to me that he wants this job no matter what he in my eyes is going to make a top class manager and what he has little experiance being a manager BUT lenny knows what playing for Celtic is all about and i can't see him not putting it into the players heads how big it really is playing for Celtic, the players need to keep playing the football keep winning games and most of all play to wear the hoops and not play just to get a wage! will be interesting 2010 / 2011 season if lenny is in charge can see him doing really well!
