Sadly thanks to poor shows in europe by all the scottish teams it means that champs are the only one to get CL spot as we all know.

BUT i seen a few fans mentioning they would rather just get papped out of europa next season so we can concentrate on getting back into the CL but LONG TERM how would that help our co efficiency, i know the CL is bigger and worth more money but really with a team like ours now and the work needed to insure we wouldn't be a laughing stock in that competition is getting to group stages and getting knocked out completely any better, theres a chance we can finish third bu i would imagine thanks to the co efficiency any future group would be even harder then celtic are used to (and we have had hard enough groups as it is).

Now again sadly celtic can not rely on other SPL teams to help the co efficiency as well they are worse then us to begin with so for the sake of celtic and celtic only what would be wrong with giving the europa league a * real go to help the co efficiency for celtic's own sake it would be good for celtic as it could make up for losing out on the CL if we have an extended run in the comp, it will slightly help the co efficiency and if we do have a solid/impressive run who's to say we won't be able to attract players?.

If celtic get in a good level or manager or Lennon turns out to be our answer to barca's pep and the respective person is given some money to play with and get in the real players needed then I think for our own sakes we should take the europa league by the throat and also fight for the league as well of course.

easier said then done of course, but i firmly believe that really really going for it in the europa next season is of big importance for the furture of celtic and honestly the future of scottish football and it's co efficiency

Is it not the case that both the winners and runners up from this SPL season go into qualifying rounds for next years Champions League , and then the 2010/2011 SPL winners will be the only entry into the following seasons qualifying rounds... That's the way I was reading things when it was mentioned some months back..

    From a website i saw
"This season's SPL winners will go into the group stage of the 2010-11 Champions League, while the runners-up will face two qualifying rounds."

Correct. After next season only 1 team goes into the CL.

The UEFA Coefficients are structured so that the coefficient effects the league the season after the rankings are published. This season Scotland has gone from 13th to 16th giving Scotland only one Champions League in the 2011/12 season.

We'll still have a chance at qualifying for the CL next season but we'll have to face two tough teams like this season.

It depends on the draw as well. This year we got Arsenal, but a few years ago we got Kaunas. There is still a chance of making it if the draw is kind but if we get a team from a top league then it becomes more difficult. The only advantage we could get is if their season starts a lot later than ours.

This wiki page has info on it , 2010?11 UEFA Champions League - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but I only gave it a brief look through and am not sure if anything definite has been decided for next years CL tournament , due to all the deciding factors including league placings from teams in other countries..

I think it's still possible that ourselves and the huns could both enter the CL at the same qualifying round next year..

Lets face it, it'll be a long time before we can challenge in the Champions League like we did under Strachan. Lets give the Europa everything we've got in the meantime. Look what Seville (as unlikely as a repeat of that is) did for morale around the club and it's public image.

We'll have an easier route this time

Instead of teams from richer leagues we'll face the champions of lower leagues

The * thing is the co-efficient needs both us and the huns to do at least OK in Europe every season to make any head way in the co-efficient rankings. The last 15yrs have proven we can't rely on the rest to do any good. Falkirk getting papped out by a team from Liechtenstein FFS!

This season was utterly embarrassing. I can't even slag the other mob for how * they were, as we certainly weren't much better!

I have said this several times before, barring this season and last season Celtic and Rangers have worked very hard and done extremely well e.g road to Seville, Last 16 3 years in a row (2 for us 1 for them). But to have 4-5 teams in Europe where only 2 do decent, even occasionally punch above our weight, where the other 2-3 teams don't make it past the first hurdle. It is simply embarrassing and damaging our game even more so. There has to be something done about the qualifying standards in Scotland.

Like what though? We can't conjure up better teams out of thin air just because Scottish sides need to do better in Europe. It's not damaging our game, it's a reflection of how bad it is. A change in the European co-efficent is a symptom, not a cause.

Are you sure? Because most of folk are saying we'll have to face opponents like this year - we'll be seeded against 'weaker' sides and then face opponent from top leagues unseeded. That's pretty much certain for us to be competing in Europe League, since we would need a miracle to beat the likes of Arsenal, Wolfsbug, Fiorentina etc.

Big problem for me has been the inclusion of losing Scottish Cup finalists in recent seasons - * Gretna & Queen of the South.

Ok if you win the Cup - go on into Europe, but to lose in the final after winning about 5 or 6 games, sometimes not even against SPL competition - is a * joke.

All European places should go to league position imo, I don't even think SC winners should go through to Europe, as it's much harder to finish 4th or 5th in the top league than to go on a decent cup run.

he is right i think. the draw has 2 pots and you play a team from the same pot. a champions pot and a not champions pot. so , for example, you have champions from eastern european leagues and lesser western leagues in one pot, while in the other you have the teams that came 4th/3rd in big leagues e.g. england and arsenal or spain and athletico madrid etc.

I was thinking having less teams qualifying. It is jsut ridiculous that teams like QoS and other 1st division clubs qualifying for European competition

the co efficent is bollocks if you ask me!

as long as the bigger countries are getting all things their way theres no chance in * for the rest of us?4 teams in the cl they get and another 4 in the europa! * is that all about? and besides we need our international team to do well as well! like qualify for a major tournament!

and its no all bad being in the europa! * i like the uefa cup always have.its the fact that uefa have * it up for once again to meet the big countries demands! it wasnt that long ago that florentino perez(real madrid president) wanted uefa to take the big clubs from the big countries only and have a league for themselves to earn more money!is that fair? no it isnt. uefa seem to forget that football is a world sport played by all and not about germany, england, italy, spain, france or about real, barca, man u,liverpool, bayern, milan, inter etc etc! the full set up needs adressed pronto! cos atm in time?the rest of the footballing world dont have a leg to stand on

I wouldn't mind if they were actually going out to teams I've at least heard of!
This season, Aberdeen got thrashed 8-1 by the famous Sigma Olomouc, and as said, Falkirk went out to a team from Liechtenstein. To put that into perspective, we'd get more people in Celtic park on a wet night in November, in a league cup tie against say, Forfar, that happened to be on council telly, than the population of Liechtenstein.

I know our European campaign was pretty shocking this season, and we shouldn't really criticise anyone, but it frustrates me that year on year we see the other Scottish clubs do utter garbage.

As said we absolutely rely on both us and them doing OK in Europe, or one side doing very well, just to remain hanging on. We'd really need both to do constantly well to make any in roads, and it really pains me to say that!
