Larsson was better than pele mate ten times better that was 40 year ago pele was strutting his stuff, players have improved big time since then and if pele was playing at this day and age he would be an avewrage player imo

Zidane was an outstanding player but i would rather have larsson in my team, zidane wouldnt have banged you in 40 goals a season and goals win games not skill!!!

maradona is without a doubt the best i have ever seen and cruyff was also an oustanding choice form you but i believ henrik is up there among the greats:50:

Tell you what gone buy henrik larsson the boy who would be king, watch that watch his movement and cleverness and goals and you will probly come to a desicion by your self if he was world class:50: honestly mate he done all that was asked of him and didnt have to prove his self to anybody :86:

True say Larsson was world class at his peak and could have played for any of the top sides in England, Spain, Germany or Italy. Zlatan is overrated and rarely performs well in big games

"Thierry Henry paid tribute to Larsson's contribution to Barcelona's win after the game, saying, "People always talk about Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o, Ludovic Giuly and everything, but I didn't see them today, I saw Henrik Larsson. Henrik Larsson came on, Henrik Larsson changed the game, that is what killed the game. Sometimes you talk about Ronaldinho and Eto'o and people like that; you need to talk about the proper footballer who made the difference, and that was Henrik Larsson tonight."

    No question. Absolutely world class.

I do agree with the OP, that the term 'world class' does get used far too often, but in Larsson's case it is wholly justified. He was selected as Sweden's greatest ever footballer, a UEFA 'Golden Boot' winner, held the record for the most goals in European competition for a British club (& think still does), scored at a ratio of 2 goals every 3 games for Celtic, even when past his prime he managed to turn heads at Barca & Man U. How many others have gone to clubs of that stature when well into their 30's and have made such telling contributions? Very, very few.

I suppose some people are hard to please, however, just think how many national teams he would have walked into. I'm not just talking minnow countries here, but the real elite of the football globe. Indeed, he is held in such regard as to being named amongst the greatest ever Celts. To question his calibre would also, by extension question the likes of McGrain, Johnstone or Dalgleish amongst the pantheon of the finest the game has seen, not just here, but anywhere.

    World Class? Absolutely.

Billy McNeill played his entire career in the SPL with Celtic...was he not World Class, or because he didn't make a "bigger" move at his peak, does that put him at a disadvantage even though he "did it" in Europe?...

What about Jimmy Johnstone? 13 years at Celtic before leaving at the, not so over the hill, age of 31 to play for teams that can only be regarded as WELL below the level of competition he was used to. Had he not turned down Manchester Utd to sign for Celtic at the age of 13, with your logic, you're implying he would have become a better player than what he was with Celtic.

Do you not think your equation as to what makes a world class player is even just a tad flawed?...

Surely, this is a wind up, right? On a Celtic forum, discussing if the finest to grace our club in many a year, and whose equal we are unlikely to see any rime soon, is world class.

Seriously, this has to be a wind up.

It was only a matter of time ....

You probably have the mentality that because you have a picture of Bobby sands on your sig, makes you more a Celtic man than me ehh ? :31:

Tassie mate, honestly, im not hard to please, loved the man, in your point you agreed that "world class" gets banded aroubd too much, it does mate, cheers.

So then its only a matter of opinion wether he was or not mate.

And again, its simply only my opinion bud :50:

right this i would rather have henke over zidane ,pele, maradona etc is down right stupid! larrson was world class! fact, but so are players like
    maradonna
    pele
    cruyff
    muller
    kempes
    zidane
    van basten
    gullit
    neeskins
    basler
matheaus etc etc etc! to me larrson is up there with them! is he better? debatable but at least he would be in the same breath as these guys so world class 100%

there is no point falling out on this! questions always gets asked about players its fact!and what annoys me more than anything is the fact people love to use the scottish football and slag it off to get one over on a debate! * disgraceful if you ask me! larrson proved time and time again what type of player he was! AND THAT INDEED WAS WORLD CLASS FOOTBALLER!!!

I fkn know how good Larsson was...

I just dont think he was as good as Zidanne Ronaldinho, Ronlado....

All the points you are making I agree with, if some people werent to drop on by page 4 or 5, they wold see that the point was that world class being banded about a little too much, and that at no point in his career did i think that Larsson was in the top 3 players in the world.

This stupid chain of thought by some folk on here, that it makes me less a Celtic man than others in my opinion differs on maybe the greatest Celtic players of all time, apart from Jinky, is ridiculous.

As said from the start, a freindly debate, and just looking for opinions, and opinions to debate about.
