Hooiveld - where is he?

Going on interviews and reputation he definitely sounds like captain material. We don't have anyone at the moment who is captain material. That was our biggest problem this season, that and lack of a Petrov style player, not the defence imo.

 

He played a bounce game midweek with Paddy in the team too.

 

Mind, they only signed him because of the clubs name Universidad CATOLICA

 

I followed Jos in Finland and Sweden. Really a very good defender. He's strong, strong in the air, has a good cross, and always looks first for the footballing solution instead of just kicking the ball away (altough sometimes that's necessary). He never panics.

It also wasn't for nothing that he was voted best defender of the year three times in a row, and player of the year one time. You can argue that thats just Finland and Sweden, but especially the Swedish competition isn't that much below the SPL.

In the years in Sweden and Finland he rarely missed a game, was never injured. When he came to Celtic in the winter, the season in sweden just ended and he didn't do a thing for about two months. He missed a whole pre-season training and so it was not surprising he got a hamstring injury. I think he is fit again now, so hope we see him play soon.

Maybe it's yet too soon to speak of the captains armband, therfore he has to play more games first, but he is potentially a captain. He has a very good character, inside and outside the field, and is a real leader. I think Celtic will have a lot of good years to come with Jos organizing the defence.

Celtic defender Jos Hooiveld has had another setback and is out of Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Hibernian at Easter Road.​

The Dutchman recovered from a hamstring injury and then a virus but then a muscle spasm in his leg keeps him out. ​

Long-term injured Diomansy Kamara, Glenn Loovens, Thomas Rogne, Niall McGinn, Koki Mizuno and Shaun Maloney are all still out.​

JUST READING ON NEWS-NOW HE HAS RECOVERED FROM HIS HAMSTRING INJURY ONLY TO CATCH A VIRUS OF WHICH HE RECOVERED FROM THAT NOW HE HAS A MUSSCLE SPASM IN HIS LEG SO HE IS VERY DOUBTFUL FOR THE WEEKEND.​

We all know what its like . . . Getting paid thousands of pounds a week whilst off sick The * probably been sitting in the freezer trying to flu up lol.

What he said about not having a proper preseason and that. I wonder who's idea it was to play him before match fit...maybe Mogga? I think Lennon will give him time to get back on his feet and get fit, get a few games in then dominate the back during the Scottish Cup Final.

 

Out again... I'm not saying against the big guy, cause it could all just be a miserable run of luck, but once again what it does do is highlight the fallibilities of TM's policy in the last transfer window - chiefly allowing both of the chuckle brothers to depart before getting in 1st team ready replacements, and the one that he did get in had not kicked a ball in anger for over a month due to the winter break in Sweden, and then rushing to get him fit & upto speed in too short a time, in part at least contributed to the subsrquent injury woes.

Aye thats what happens when you are under pressure and buy someone who is not fully fit!
I was so looking forward to this guy playing but so far, I think i will be next season before we see him. Hope he's not a Maloney or MCourt when it comes to fitness!

 

I heard he's suffered another injury setback, something to do with muscle spasms Think I read it on skytext recently.

 

Just started too soon after 3 weeks of preparation, got injured (hamstring); started too soon after injury hamstring and again hamstring troubles. Was ready to play three weeks ago. Got influenza, so could not play. Started training again after illness and got some trouble again with his muscles, due to the influenza.
So the problem is that he wants to play too soon every time. Now he almost fit again, will start training coming week and will be ready for the rest of the season: I think.
Nobody to blaim i think, perhaps the player himself?? Wanting too much in too short time??!! Should be glad he is willing, think that's a good mentality.

 

The lad probably just wants to do nothing but prove himself and earn a spot in next year's squad as well as earn the fans respect and he's just started out unlucky. I say it's too early to say he was a poor purchase.

 

He is no poor purchase. Rest assured.

* paper reports of a McManus return. Hooiveld is the future compared to that guy. Let's look at him when he is fit. Pre injury, he was being hailed as our number one. Even after a game and a bit, he looked better than what we had seen for the season thus far. People forget things so quickly.
