Gotta be Lambert, simply cos he was a leadership.....he was a leader, basically our current team lacks leadership and direction on the park.

Andy Thom for me, he was quality and can actually deliver a good ball into the box, swap any of our wide players for him!

Since our defence is a shambles, Rieper I picked.

    Boyd-can also play lb
    jackie
    Rieper
    Stubbs
    Lambert
    Burley
    Wieghorst

If I'm only allowed 1 player, I'll go for Burley.

Thom is not in that list as he was away after half that season.

There's a few players I could have gone for tbh.

I picked Lambo but could easily have 5 or 6 of that team in the team today.

It was a tough choice between Rieper and Burley but I opted for Craig Burley. We could really do with a goalscoring box to box midfielder like that in our team just now.

Probably Burley. He was perfect as a Celtic player. The only time in his career where he got to play his best position (box to box) in a good team. He was better than Stan IMO because he was a born leader and driving force. He also had a far better goals to games ratio than Stan.

Actually there are a number of players from that team-Stubbs, Reiper, Mahe, Lambo, Burley, Henke who have never been bettered in their positions since then and that includes the MON side (of course a couple of them did become regulars there). The stop-10 team would have been amazing if that core had had a good natural wide player (say a Naka or Maloney) and a fitting partner for Henke.

BTW the big squad list hides the fact that the lineup was very consistent that season:

    .............Gould
Boyd.....Subbs.....Reiper....Mahe (Annoni in OF games to stop Laudrop)

    Jackie....Burley.....Lambo.....Weigorts/O'Donnell

    ..................Henke........Donnelly etc

Only the 2nd striker and wide left position varied much.

People hate burley for the very part of his personality which made him a amazing player for us - his sheer competitivity and in your face presence. He is the kind of driving force player that you only stumble on rarely. Barry Robson is another. I do not buy this 'he is past his best'stuff. He is getting rave reviews and scoring buckets of goals in a league which many claim is better than the SPL. Mogga punting all our characters was his biggest crime. Very like Barnes IMO. Didnt recognise the importance of fighter and characters in SPL football.

You can hardly say that when he made Scott Brown his captain ffs. There is still also the suspicion that Caldwell and Robson were sold over his head. I don't believe for one second Tony Mowbray wanted to lose Caldwell. Caldwell was his captain at Hibs and Mowbray had been on record plenty times in the past saying how much he liked him as a player.
