Why exactly? What's the pope done to deserve respect?

Do you realize who The Pope is ? And I am not talking about Joseph Ratzinger I am talking about the Papacy

Maybe when he starts supporting women's right to choice or stops encouraging the spread of AIDS in africa, maybe then I'll respect him a little.

    You are a mug aren't you ?
What exactly has Pope Benedict done to discourage woman's rights ?
And if you say anything about a female Priesthood then I will cut you off right there because it will show your ignorance and lack of understanding of anything intelligent. If someone has no knowledge of Catholicism they should retract from commenting.

When did The Pope encourage the spread of Aids in Africa ?
You do realize that the Catholic Church is a 2000 year old institution that goes back to the time of Jesus Christ dont you ? And that the Catholic Church doesn't just * about and change certain rules because your modern liberal points of view feel like it.
And if you would like a modernized liberal gay loving Church I would consider becoming a Protestant

And I'm not having a pop at catholics, I'm having a pop at the pope

Listen you mug !!! when you take a pop at the Pope you take a pop at Catholics

Eh ............ maybe you should have a little look in the mirror. Considering you have Osama Bin Laden who orchestrated the killing of thousands of innocent people as your profile picture I think it is fair game to consider you are a *.

And that your intelligence speaks volumes in considering that funny.

    * do they mean by this

The Orange Order in Ireland has said it cannot welcome or agree with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI to Great Britain for "biblical reasons".

Hardly a Christian attitude, these guys need transporting back 200 years, where's Emmett Brown when you need him

Wot say do they actually have? I personally am no interested in te seeing the pope but it would be an embarrasment to the Scottish nation of they listened to an openly bigoted movement. Dont get yourslef worked up over it, they have no say, can you imagine what the World would say if Scotlands government banned the pope from Scotland :56:

Fair enough, I'm not a religious man myself, but there's some things you' (should)ve been brought up to respect, as a part of your tradition, if anything.

To see such comments on a Celtic forum I just cannot fathom:confused:

    * me sideways - I'm by no means an admirer of the Pope, but that pish sounds like something oot ae Nemesis the Warlock.

What century are these dobbers living in? The 13th?

You have to wonder sometimes if the Orange Order isn't some kind of satirical group - run by Chris Morris and Steve Coogan. With Borat as head of PR.

Pope accused of ignoring pleas to stop priest who molested 200 deaf boys - Times Online

In todays Times, if true, then it doesnt portray the current Pope in good light. I have no problem with the Pope, im not that religious a person but was brought up RC by my parents. There just seems to be too many similar incidents in the press nowadays and there appears to be nothing being done about it. I know it happens in all walks of life, in all countries and it sickens all decent minded people but there just seems to regular stories about it within the Catholic Church

I must say I really hope that when Papa arrivals in Scotland, that he is welcomed by a flurry of Catholics who are waving Scotland flags. And that we don't have thousands of knobs wearing Celtic tops and waving Tri colours.
This would be the worse possible greeting he could ever possibly receive in my eyes.
And that there will be the ignorant bunch who wear ROI tops who wave a Muslim Palestine flag thinking that some how this corresponds with the Popes visit.
There always will be the few ?
But let us rise above this and give him a greeting that compares and tops the visit of Pope John Paul 2. Because Pope Benedict the 16th is a far superior Pope than JP2 ever was. Thats not an opinion thats a fact , and I would be willing to have a civil argument about why he is a far superior leader to the Catholic Church than every single Pope in the last 50 years , which includes 5 Popes.
May * Bless and Protect Pope Benedict and may we give him the same sort of welcome we gave JP2

    * me i thought this was about the orange scum protesting about the popes visit?

chris mate i was brought up a roman catholic but lets be fair it is indoctrinated into us at a very early age,i grew up in cranhill,in the east end of glasgow and i went to st gregory's sec i remember a crackpot r.e. teacher telling me i should be at cranhill sec for having the cheek to ask and openly question teachings of the bible.

religion is and always has been a way of having control of the masses (no pun intended)

my old man (rip) was taught by marists brothers at the old st mungo's and he used to say they where evil.

my point being this a celtic forum not a catholic propaganda site.
and before i get slaughtered i was raised a catholic.
