Celtic boss Gordon Strachan is weighing up a move for Trabzonspor midfielder Miroslaw Szymkowiak.

The 29 year-old Poland international is good friends with Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski and the pair share the same British agent.

Szymkowiak will cost around £2.7 million before the World Cup - Strachan wants to complete his transfer activity before the tournaments begins on June 9 - but that could rise to around £7m if he excels in Poland's games against Germany, Ecuador and Costa Rica.

    Szymkowiak is an excellent player
hes the best offensive midfielder that Poland has, and he played with Zurawski at Wisla Krakow, so there will be no problems with communication, and you will probable see a lot of great passes from Szymek to Zurawski

Is he better than Petrov? I don't know, never seen them both in one match. But Szymek is very good midfielder.
He often make "ortogonal passes"(it's idiom I think, how to say it in english?), has good long range shoots. I'd say he surely would do in Celtic. The problem is he won't be cheap. Some italian club was interested in him last year, and he is star in Trabzonspor.
One more problem, he plays technic futball, in Poland he was fouled very often, he may be too subtle for Scotland league.
But i think he grow up in Turkey, and this is not his problem any more.

aye...Szymkowiak is a class player. He has good technique, great vision and the greatest heart to play of all polish players imo. I remember him when he played for Wisla with Magic and you have to know that this duo kills every defense :)

He is a star in Trabzonspor and one of the best players in the Turkish league
so I think he will manage to play on a high level at Parkhead...

Any of the Polish lads heard of Jakub Blaszankowski or something like that. He plays for Legia or Wisla.. he plays DR/WBR/MR & AMR in football manager 2006. He's one of the best young players in the game, hes about 19. Is he as good in real life as he is in FM2006?

Yes he is very talented player, but i heard somewhere that he should work more. Some people predicted that he would be in polish wc squad but he is not.

i can remember him playing midfield (wing), and transferring into defence. Not sure if it was right or left. The guy was impressive at offensive play and defence too. looks quick. Best games he had was against class teams, and in two games Wisla played against Panathinaikos, he was pure class. Moving to a class club would do him good as I cannot see Wisla's manager taking advantage of his talent enough.

Blaszczykowski plays really good in polish league and what is more he managed to play a great game against panathinaikos in CL qualification match.

He is very talented player but is he good enough now to play in Celtic which want to make an impact in CL? Don't know...

IMO there's no way Wisla could let him go. After losing the title they're about to rebuild the squad and they're believed to build on the young prospects like Blaszczykowski (that's his actual name, he'll turn 21 in december, he has lost 5 months to the injury but now he makes massive progress) and Brozek brothers (center forward and left winger).
