Am I just over analysing or does no one else see the gravity of this? I was astonished when I heard about this today.

Its a nice thought as the initiative is coming from Levein or the SFA; they are honouring a player who only had one cap for the country while seemingly recognising they owe him as it was in an international friendly that he was robbed of a career by that dirty *.

But what goes on that day will only further the "us and them" attitude much of our fans have regarding the national team.

The day will be soured. McGeady will be booed by highlanders and small club fans who our fans will wrongly percieve to be huns. One side will be decked in Tricolours while the other in Saltires and of course our fans will be giving it the rebels. There will be much agro and I wouldnt be suprised if some huns infiltrate the Scotland support which on normal occasions wouldnt include them.

It will be a field day for any fan looking for justification not to support our national side. I've followed the national team avidly since I was wee, but I can't see myself getting away with being both a Scotland and Celtic fan after this.

Common sense suggests this shouldn't go through, and Im gutted that I 'll find myself unable to justify supporting the NT after this.

It should be John's decision. If he wants to play Scotland then so be it. They could even have a couple of ex players who have played with him like Lambert. Maybe even a few ex Scots and Celts like John Collins and Tom Boyd.

Aye, but the SFA and the national team aren't the same thing though, mate. Plus Craig Levein is his own man, hes not the type that will pander to them either.

Really ,what has the Scotland Football team got to do with this .

I am also more than sure that John Kennedy got asked about this and he himself has given it the go ahead .

Corrupt officials dont play for Scotland ,a lot of these guys are probaly ex team mates and friends to him and also to have a testimonial against your country i think is a great tribute to him .

And to let you know yes im Scottish but im not a Scotland fan nor does that make me a fan of any other Country .

There will always be chimps who spoil things. However, you are right about the danger of infiltration of huns and Celtics own * stirring anti-Scottish element. Club football is usually a banned subject among the tartan army as is the whole orange-green thing. No matter what happens though you never need to jusify to thickos with shoulder chips why you support your own country. The answer would be for a green saltires day and a typical home game avoidance of the controversial songs. Its a day where its about a Celtic and Scotland player and Irish history should not come into it at all.

To all those getting on my back for my previous post let's have a look at this.

The Scotland team is part of the SFA the same people we've been complaining about all season, corrupt members and even worse officials. They history of there predjudice against us is shocking yet people want to welcome them to Celtic Park despite the fact there referees will have played a huge part in costing us the league?

McGregor, Whittaker, Webster, thomson, mcculloch, miller and Boyd. Great idea let's play a game against a team full of orcs. That would be a great spectical eh? Mcculloch n Thomson kicking * out of everyone.

Tartan army fannies - all the sheep * * that support all the wee diddy teams that travel around the world looking like something off a short bread tin celebrating getting pumped. There also the brainless, bigoted * who boo mcgeady because of his nationality, that will be another great part of the day eh? The vile abuse of one of our players.

I suggested villa because they were mentioned in the article on stv site. The reason is not because the have an Irish manager as some fud suggested it's actually because their manager was JK's manager for the majority of his career.

Not the most reliable source but Keevins said this was very unlikely probably due to many of the reasons iv mentioned.

a big :50::50: to everyone on this thread who have challenged the anti-Scotland sentments posted by one guy above. That is exactly the sort of mentality that will cause problems at the game. All this dragging in the Rangers aspect into a Celtic v Scotland game. ANY other club and this wouldnt be an issue. Please note that I would expect many Celts and ex-Celts to be in Scotland shirts, possibily playing some time in each.

(1.) Two seperate things in my books. The SFA are an incompetent organisation who couldn't organise a * up in a brewery. At the end of the day the manager picks the team.

(2.) Whats wrong with supporting "diddy teams"? You'd prefer they sacked their local team and became glory hunting OF fans that haven't been to a game in their life?. That is the reason football is in such a state in this country.

(3.) So they follow a side around the world regardless of results, stay cheerful and conduct themselves well wherever they go...sound like perfect football fans to me.

(4.) His nationality is the same as theirs, they boo him because they feel he chose to shun that.

Fair play to Celtic and Scotland for setting this up. It's a shame how he missed out on a football career.

But the day after (hopefully) us v them in the cup final, seems a bit of bad timing. Who's going to be freed up after a hampden day out? Pre season would be a full stadium, although there would be a lot less huns i'd say if they do make it to Hampden aswell.

I wonder how good Mick and Caldwell would be in opposition colours at Parkhead:56:, I'd pay to see that.

Thank ghod this sort of way at looking at things is getting less common among younger fans. Its also total nonsense. There are more Celtic than Rangers fans in the Tartan army these days for a start. You have that stuck about 40-odd years ago ideas about Scotland support.

    1. So in your way of looking at things, lawwell, Reid n desmond have nothing to do with Celtic then?

    2. The ones I know, killie, Motherwell and St mirren fans have a very bigoted and vile hatred of Celtic.

    3. Celebrating constant defeat is my definition of a loser.

    4. His nationality is Irish that's why he plays for Ireland FFS!!
