    Eh ok.

But i was not referring to anyone disliking Scotland because of religion and the rest of whatever you mentioned.

The lad i replied to said, some of our support affiliate themselves to Ireland for some reason.

The point i was getiing is,there is more than the religious side as to why people associate with Ireland.

aye but a most if these people are at the very least 3rd generation Irish. In other words their grandparents are Irish. Only a few though. The grand majority are 4th 5th or 6th generation. In my case its my great grandparents that came over. I would bet my house that less than 5% of these celtic and irish supporters are sons of Irishmen. what i dont get is how you can feel a loyalty to country that your family left decades ago, and probably i most cases havnt even set foot on Irish soil. its incomprehensible. and naive.

Also im half Spanish. my dad and all is family live in spain. i visit spain several times a year and have all my life. i have a spanish passport. But, iv grown up in Scotland went to school in scotland, most of my friends and the best of my memories are in scotland. therefor when someone asks me when im abroad where i am from. i will tell them im scottish. when scotland play spain next october i will be in hampden singing loch lomand at half time.

Aye people have the right to feel whatever/whoever they like. but how can people feel irish when they dont even know what it feels like to be irish. they havnt lived, worked, socialized understood the culture. go and experience all this first before you call yourself irish. and if you like it so much stay over there!

I think to claim some Irish ancestry is fine but really to actually call ones self Irish if noone in your family has lived there in the 6 generations since the famine is ridiculous. Its also not really true in terms of bloodlines. Most Scottish tims I know are of mixed Irish and native Scottish bloodlines. Its rare now to know people who are not mixed 50-50 or 75-25 . So many tims I know have families that are a mix of Celtic and Rangers supporters. They are Scottish people with a mix of Scottish and Irish bloodlines.

To be honest my impression is that the guys who really push the Irish angle and especially the republican stuff are not the descendants of famine Irish but are rather people whose family came over 100 years later around the 1950s etc and who therefore are much closer connected to Ireland, have Irish grandparents etc. I think that small group is very visible and vocal but the 1950s type immigrants are a small group compared to the famine immigrants of 100 years earlier who are much more distant from Ireland and more integrated as Scots.

Personally I believe the reason we don’t see so many Saltire’s flying at P.H. is down to a few things, 1 many of the Scots born Celtic supporters with an Irish heritage actually consider themselves to be Irish, just as many Huns consider themselves to be English (“ Show me the man who doesn’t love the land he was born in “ ) .I’ve heard this conversation many times in pubs and can remember my younger cousin been asked the same question. He to replied because it was blue, in some of the posts on this thread some have joked about the same reason for not flying it. The guy said to him it’s actually azure ( sky blue ) the same colour normally associated with statues of the Virgin Mary !. Then asked him who St Andrew was?, little cousin didn’t know ,so the guy said he was St Peters brother the first Pope of Rome, so in actual fact the St Andrew’s flag is the first Pope of Rome’s wee brothers flag. So why should we not be proud to fly it? ,not solely because of any religious association but because we’re Scottish. I’m in no way trying offend anybody who considers themselves to be Irish even if they we’re born here,I myself have Irish relatives and have visited Ireland on many occasions since 1979 and believe the people of Nationalist West Belfast ( Andersonstown in particular) are amongst the best of the best !.But it saddens me personally that many who would refuse to fly a Saltire have no problem flying Palestinian flags. Remember it’s only my opinion. Saiorse Alba.

Why would you want to fly a Scotland flag at Celtic games anyway? It wouldn't really compliment the majority of the other colours and our club colours in the stadium (Green & White, Tri-colours etc) theres nothing blue and white in the stadium that would generally make it look good, should be saved for scotland games.

Its the Scottish national flag. When we came to Scotland we were subjected to sickening racism and discrimination. Many moons ago my Granda was born and reared in the gorbals but returned home. My mother used to tell me about how unfairly the Irish were treated in Scotland. Im sure this is a tale many on this site would know more about than i would and can sympathise with. We were outcast by the native scots, that is the main reason why this great club was founded. We kept our culture and traditions alive and the tricolour is the flag of Celtic F.C.

I wouldnt care if anyone waived this flag at parkhead but if you look at the history i can understand why somebody would not want to wave the national flag of a country that didnt want them in the first place.

Nobody wanted The Irish wherever they went, yet we fly American flags over here all the time and have great relations with the U.S.A. same difference.
