He has had major form issues for a long time but one thing I do know is he can play the odd blinder and have decent runs of form. The two who are playing are simply novices whose CVs do not come near to Mick and Caldwells. Not sure there would be a recall clause though.

I think you can see he has more potential than McManus but Mick has a * of a lot more experiences and has played well in big big games for club and country that Thompson would be crucified in. So short term he is not the answer. I do not even see potential in OD. He is just rubbish. There is no question that if Mick was still here he would have been playing in our recent games.

I get the feeling he was part of a sweetener to make WGS part with the money for McDonald in the first place, that deal's financed most of the window for us.Not as if we did'nt know McManus might be going, but he was getting the armband not long before it!!

Another(sorry) thing,we're now talking about these younger CB's being first picks, the experience, in terms of centre-halves to guide them ?
Loovens-totally shot of confidence after a disaster in 1st half of season.
Hooiveld-hardly stepped off a plane himself.
O'Dea-still with the spectre of being a Celtic semi-reject hanging.(Shaky peg).

At least McManus had been over the course and won a few Titles etc. The type who could say"watch for him at Dundee Utd,look out for him at Aberdeen",etc.
None of these new bhoys have had the benefit of that!!

Why are you grieving over a player we all hounded out because he's a liability? Let's move on and support the team we have without hankering over someone who sold they jerseys instead of playing for it.

I agree that we should not have loaned Mick out. But there is no way of him coming back before the end of the season...and Mick is almost certainly gonna be sold in the summer.

There is no hiding the fact, despite the number of players brought in, that the recent transfer window was again a failure. Almost all of Celtic support agreed that the 2 areas of the pitch that needed attention were CB & up front, but IMO, central defence was the most in dire need of attention and had to be priority one. The failure to secure a single, fit, 1st team ready CB cannot be understated, and even if preferences, such as St. Ledger or Ramis were not able, then surely a loanee in this area wouldve been more of a priority than 3 strikers.

The very fact that its mid-Feb & people have called for McManus to be recalled - even if that were possible - speaks volumes as to how much of a failure last month was. I was concerned at the time and with hindsight, it is all the more puzzling as to the logic - or lack thereof - behind the thought processes that were in place during the transfer window.

    I completely disagree with this.

The one thing that can't be said about McManus is that he didn't play for the jersey. Unfortunatley, desire alone doesn't make you a quality player.

If it did, everyone of us on this forum would be chasing a place in the starting 11 :56:

I liked McManus and still believe he is better than what we currently have, but to be fair, maybe its best if we move on, concentrate on catching up on the beasties and find a better replacement for him in the summer.
