who d'y'all think wid be a good buy? Am not too sure about the Armstong guy myself but then I'm not too sure about who is out there that we could afford. If we were to scout one at the World cup wid there be enough time to get all the paperwork done and get him bedded in before the new season. What is the closing date for new signings for the new season - and surely that date must be one that allows for acclimatization etc? Also is there a pre-season schedule yet?

Even the times when we have been absolute *, there have been a few diamonds in there,Paul McStay springs to mind. Because Sunderland are * it doesn't mean that Arca is. The guy is quality and has all the attributes of a good Celtic full back.

Celtic told to go for Miroslaw Szymkowiak by Zurawski

GORDON STRACHAN could turn to Poland as he searches for Stilian Petrov’s replacement. With the Bulgarian insisting he will leave Celtic in the summer, Maciej Zurawski has recommended Miroslaw Szymkowiak, his Polish international teammate, as a successor.
The tireless 29-year-old midfielder also played with Zurawski at Wisla Krakow before moving to Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he became a crowd favourite after scoring nine times in his first 15 games. He will be in Poland’s World Cup squad and Strachan will get a chance to see him while working for the BBC at the tournament, although he already knows the Polish market well after the signings of Zurawski and Artur Boruc last summer. He is familiar with Szymkowiak, and did not deny an interest in the player when asked on Friday.
“The Polish players have been fantastic,” said Strachan, referring to Boruc and Zurawski. “I expected them to do well but maybe not as well as they have done. It says a lot about the Polish league and it’s a market we might have to look at again.”

Polish league and it’s a market we might have to look at again.”
Zurawski further believes that Kamil Kosowski, also bound for the World Cup, could successfully join Celtic’s Polish colony. The two-footed midfielder, 28, can play on either flank and is currently on loan at Southampton from Kaiserslautern, the club he joined from Wisla Krakow. “It really depends on what the trainer wants,” said Zurawski. “They both have their strengths and because I have come here and done really well, I think they could too.”
Petrov himself favours a domestic solution to the problem his departure will cause. “If I’m sold, I hope Stephen Pearson gets in the team because he has great ability,” he said. “I’d also like to see Celtic sign Paul Hartley (from Hearts). He would be a great asset.”
Despite last week’s transfer request, Strachan publicly insisted that he hopes to keep Petrov. “If I have to replace him, then I will find out how difficult it is but I am hoping that I don’t have to,” he said.

For me Szymkowiak could be even better than Petrov - but he's too expensive ~5mln Euro

Don't worry mate, I'm pretty sure he'll at least get a chance. Can't see him being a first team starter though. Strachan will sign someone in the Summer and Mulgrew will get put in on the odd game.

itd be a straight swap as far as price goes

stan wont go for free...or for that matter...anything under 5 million...
thats 5 million we could put to this new polish guy without even touching what has been budgeted to WGS

id forgotten about Arca. he'd be good to bring in, and have him and mulgrew share some time on the left

Because of their origin... Zurawski and Boruc
It won' t be so bad man.. They call him "Sheemac" in Turkey so you could turn him into "MacSheemac" in Scotland or simply "BigMac" if if confirmed his class later...
Seriously, Szymkowiak is the best Polish midfielder without a doubt and some journalists described him as Polish "Pavel Nedved" (not only because of his hair style..). He' s really smart, creative, scores many goals and what seems to be most important for Celtic fans - this man assisted more than 50% goals scored by Maciej Zurawski in Polish league and national team. Thy can really co-operate with the eyes closed.

I would like to see pearson getting a shot at a first team, he always looked like he could fill an attacking midfield role, having the golden oldies playing in the centre has hampered our attacking.
Arca would be a good signing, but correct me if i am wrong didn't he get promoted with Sunderland? So why would he wanna jump ship after relegation, maybe he'd wanna stay and try to come back up?
