if he had'nt got fitness issues we would see him every game.wether that would be for last half hour or from the start for an hour!
unfortunlae me thinks he will never get over those fitness problems, would love to see him prove me wrong

I have watched Paddy for years, it may have been in the LOI but his style is to attack and not tackle back.

The thing about his fitness is crap, when he has the ball he is as quick as anyone.

Paddy is not an out and out winger, he should play behind the forwards in a free role.

Just because he does not tackle back does not mean he is not fit. Look at David Ginola,Ronaldo,Best etc they did not track back. But they got away with it because they had a defence behind them that let them preform. If we had a decent defence Paddy would start every game.

    so true. :84:

he's easily the most gifted player in scotland. although half of me hopes he stays as he is, where his cult status would be assured!

He's the most talented player in the squad by a mile and it is such a sad inditement on this current Celtic team that Mccourt can't be accomodated in the starting line up. People want him to work hard, track back, tackle defend blah blah blah well did you ask the same of Lubo?

Do we ask Brown, Crosas or Nguemo to score, set up chances, to get us on the edge of our seat seats and set our pulses racing no, because they can't. I'd rather watch 5 minutes of Mccourt than 50 games of workmanlike dull grinding football. Hopefully we can get to enjoy some more from Pat before he leaves as he inevitably will. He must look on in bewilderment from the bench or more probably the stand at some of the "talent" which Mogga has infront of him.

Best is his hero and there is a bit of similarity about the way he plays but he wasnt taught that ,you cant teach that thats is natural ability ,gifted if you like.

Utter bull, if the lad can't get fit after the amount of time he has been here then he never will and is only ever going to deserve to be a sub! Do you think McGeady and Maloney particuarly enjoy tracking back? They don't but it's something they have had to add to their game and that's why when fit, they have continued to get the 2 wide slots under TM.

There is no way he "isn't fit enough", as people keep on saying on this thread.

The guy has been a professional footballer for the last two years of his life, he will be fine in terms of fitness.

Surely when Strachan and Mowbray go on about his "fitness", it's just a euphamism for saying that he's a bit lazy and isn't a team player at the moment. Saying he isn't fit enough is just a nice way of explaining why he isn't in the team in public, as you can't really call a player lazy if you're talking to the media.

    He is fit enough -

Then why is it he does very little when he starts games and rarely plays a 90 mins? He always looks knackered to me when he is playing, even the warm up seems to knacker him.

It is an absolute footballing tragedy that this guy just can't sort his fitness out given his talent.

Almost enough to want us to completely reorganise the team to accomdate this guy. But can you justify that for one, unfit, dare I say lazy player?

In my view it's the exact reason the S.American number 10's never make it in Britain. If you can't contribute to defence then you don't deserve a place in the team. Veron is a decent example.

What we'd need to do is play a narrow game without proper wingers - 4-3-1-2 or but when our strength is on the wings this simply isn't possible. It's not even a formation seen in British football and would take unreal balls to try, particularly for the sake of Paddy McCourt. A 4-4-1-1 is another alternative but can you justify 1 striker in Scotland?

My blatherings aside he is such an exciting player to watch, absolutely amazing and certainly reminiscant of Best.

Fair enough i just completely disagree though

He didn't look at all knackered against St Johnstone, he absolutely destroyed their right back about 5 times - so he looked pretty energetic to me.

And i don't get your point about the 90 minutes thing - as he's only started about 3 matches this season, and he's scored wonder-goals in two of them (vs. St Mirren and Falkirk away)... so i just don't think that's right.

I think if you're a special talent kind of player, you have to work harder than average to prove that you're not lazy also.

Cos he's got that kind of talent and a laid-back attitude, people realise that he's become a professional footballer through ability, despite attitude... rather than ability and attitude... and he probably has to do more than average to disprove that lazy image i think.

He was only on the pitch for a 3rd of the game mate and was playing against 10 men. Having said that, yes he did play well when he came on but my point is that he can’t do if for a full game or anywhere near it. I just think both he and McGinn are better coming off the bench to make an impact than starting games.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Impact player for me, a very good one. Hes not got the fitness to put him in the starting eleven. If you watch McGeady, he doesn't stop, he tracks back, he presses, he runs at defenders and still lasts 90 minutes.
