The people who did give the orders are now elected members of the British parliament so they aren't "terrorists" any more, so therefore we would be singing about a legitimate political party!

Standing up against uefa and fifa ? With all due respect where will that get, us and lets not beat around the bush I probably agree with some of the things the songs are about ie: fighting for the irish to be free etc BUT the question of the thread was should they be sung at a football match and maybe thats been lost its not whether people should be able to sing them or believe what they want but not inside a football stadium . I agree that a lot of other clubs sing worse songs but i dont support them and when i said as a nation i meant as we are seen and are a scottish club and i believe its widely recognised that either through ourselves or more likely through the actions of the idiotic bunch accross the city the governing body will hammer someone and we would be prime candidates and the people who have a problem with the singing here feel that we dont want to see it happen to our club . I for one beleiev we have to move on and yes ireland will never forget but we all need to try and move on as im sure a lot of irish peopple on both sides are trying to do .

Do you think that's one of the main reasons as to why people want to sing them? Because they help the atmosphere?

I dont agree with some of what your saying, but fair enough you have every right to your opinion.

With regards to the highlighted point, there's no one here like that. The UTV tonight will continue their "victims of the troubles" programming. That doesn't seem like moving on, does it?

But on the issue of songs we could and have argued pointlessly over the space of a couple of days, doesn't change the fact that regardless to what we, the fans, say, the club and UEFA etc will * ignore us anyway.

There's me thinking that putting terrorists in quotation marks aluded to my opinion on such a matter, but so much for subtly...................

I DON'T BELIEVE THEY ARE TERRORISTS!

i think at this stage anything to get the atmosphere going isnt a bad thing as long as the songs arent offensive etc!
coming over from ireland its hard to raise the money these days to get over as much as id like to but now i always stay for two nights to get the atmosphere in the pubs that im addicted to from these past few years going to paradise but this season has been very disappointing as has last season!!
my next trip is for the falkirk game in january and im bringing some celtic park virgins who have heard so many good things about the atmosphere,i cant disappoint them and tell them how i think it will be but they will shout rebel songs and i shall sing with them, proud of my country, proud our our unity and proud of being in celtic park

Sorry about the delay Minty only noticed it there.

I dont think its the sole reason, no. Certain fans are always going to want to sing the rebel songs and thats the way it is.

My opinion is on matchday in CP there are more fans who dont wnat to sing the rebs than do so this would lead me to believe that celtic songs should catch on easier and create an atmosphere before rebs would but alas this is not the case as neither set can spark the whole stadium.

I personally think if someone held a gun to every fans head and made them sing one of either Willie Maley or BOTOB that willie maley would drown it out easy so cant see that being the reason.

I just think the rebs are sung to remember the old days wer it wasnt frowned upon and people dont like being told what to do or what to sing.

We badly need something to get the atmosphere back to the MON years or Tommy Burns years.
The atmosphere was great during those years because we had genuine class players in the Hoops, many songs about the 3 amigos, Lubo & Henrik helped generate the atmosphere.
Rebel songs have no place in football, leave the bigotry to the Huns, we need to lead by example, not be dragged down to their level.

blowing up innocent civilians is going to have you classed as a terrorist. i would imagine most folk would agree on that statement

There were several warnings given in this thread to keep it on topic on whether or not the rebel songs should be sung, this is not a discussion on whether or not the IRA are/were terrorists.

Thread closed - any issues PM me.
