Even though the place was full of Celtic fans? My point is, there's a lot of crossover between Celtic songs and rebel songs, which works both ways.

I often go to such gigs but don't sing Rebel songs at Parkhead, I join in with the Celtic songs and folk songs but not the rebel songs, it's not that hard to separate them.

At a republican music gig you know the Celtic fans that are there have the same republican beliefs as you or they wouldn't be there in the first place. At the stadium there are many Celtic fans who don't share those republican beliefs who are just as much fans as anyone else so singing rebel songs can be seen to divide the support.

Well I'd rather be singing rebel songs than nothing. At least it creates an atmoshere. Of course I would join in with Celtic songs as well, I'd sing anything just as long as we're not sitting in silence and leaving early etc.

That doesn't justify the singing of them either.

When i watch the rep of ireland on the telly, you don't hear many rebel songs being sung at those matches while the game is playing?. I suppose it's just a social/cultural problem in the west of scotland.

What does YNWA or LTPS etc have to do with football ? And yet we still sing them...

Sadly many of the most passionate supporters are priced out of the games these days and are replaced by people who have money yet are not passionate at all.

So people who sing the rebel songs are not decent ? Well I will tell you this, the thousands of tims I have met who like a reb or two are some of the most decent, genuine people I have met. * bless every single one of them, I am glad to be on the same side as them.

Scottish people who like to believe they are Irish ? You get Scottish Republicans too you know. That is just ignorance.

They don't have the right, however that goes two ways Danni as these supporters have no right to tell us not to sing the Rebel songs.

Why are you intent on continuing with this line of thought buddy ? There is not a chance we will get punished for singing the rebel songs as they are not sectarian or racist. It is all scare mongering.

See above, there is no chance we will get docked points.

Rangers songs are sectarian and have no place in life. Ours are not full of hatred and sectarianism.

A problem ? Aye ok then, our supporters have always had sympathies with the Irish Republican struggle. These songs are also our way of expressing our Irish heritage.

There is nothing wrong with singing songs that aren't about football. But singing politically motivated songs at a football game isn't right in my opinon.

Sorry, but that's not good logic in my opinion. Just because you have money doesn't mean that you're not passionate. But I do agree with you that a lot of people are being priced out of going to games these days.

The question isn't "What would you rather?" it's "Should they be sung at all?"

Well they get sung every away game and nothing has happened. Also if they were serious about it then the huns would have been dealt with seriously a long long time ago.

And fair play to you for that buddy. Respect :celt_2:

Fair enough if that is your opinion.

I never said that. What I meant is that there are a lot of guys inside Parkhead who can obviously afford their season ticket yet they are not passionate in the slightest.

I have already answered the question, I was just referring to your post.

The problem is, this 'your either with us or against us' attitude some supporters have with regards to irish republicanism. Not very celtic minded & just as narrow minded as loyalist views.

Do you have evidence of this ? As I have never came across it.

The republican element of our support has no problem with people who don't care about the subject and/or who don't sing the rebs.

However the problem is people trying to change what we sing and have done so for years. They have no right to tell us what to sing (obviously not including sectarian songs) However we don't sing sectarian songs so there' no problem there.

I don't think that Celtic fans should sing IRA songs at games. It is in our history but in Scotland the IRA are seen as a terrorist group against Britain.

    Bizarre.

yes i understand but songs such as "bhoys of the old brigade" having nothing to do with the PIRA. These songs are about the IRA of 1916 not terrorists but in fact war heroes
