How do you view and feel towards rangers fans?
Have to agree with Robson here; I met several Rangers fans while in Glasgow who were perfectly fine. However, I do not like the ones who are bigoted and destroy things and can't stand losing. Unless I know them, anyone I see wearing a Rangers top gets a bad look from me.

Would your dedication to your team lead to violence?
No. Violence is not a way to show dedication.

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in?
    Yes.

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)?
I was raised in an Irish Catholic family in Derry. Grandad and Uncles always watched the games, I followed.

How do you view and feel towards rangers fans? they are normal people! just because they support a * team doesn't make any difference to them as people, however, there are a few you would despise and hate a celtic fan because of the team they support, those rangers fans, i do hate.

Would your dedication to your team lead to violence? nope and never

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in? no

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)? definately not quality of football! haha. I support them because my grandad brought me to a match when i was like .. 7, when he brought me the second time, i was about 10 and thats when i really started supporting them for real! haha

I'd also like to say that the title of this post is misleading. The question "How much of a fan are you?" and the questions you pose after it (all but the last question) are not how I would assess how much of a fan someone is of Celtic. Most of these questions have to deal with the sectarian part of the Celtic culture, which is something we won't ever escape, but it is not what makes or breaks a fan at all.

It was intended. This guy thinks or wants to create the link that supporting Celtic is based on hatred of Rangers, which is wrong. The researcher's questions are about Rangers and violence, that's why I answered the original question followed by the other ones.:50:

agree with americancelts last post. i'm scotish, me mums from sligo. turns out she knew sean fallon. i met him and jock stein at glasgow airport in 1967 when i was 6 and i didn't support celtic. i supported jimmy johnstone:52: i was in primary 2 of a catholic school in edinburgh. none of my street pals went cos i wasn't allowed to go to the local school because catholics were not allowed. Scoland 1966. check the history. was a choirboy and the lodge used to march outside the cathedral when we'd come out. dont really know as friends any huns but i work with a few govanminded and the banter is great and when those not in the know come out with the vitriol these guys are the first to shut the bigots up. I think its cos they know that i am a supporter. celtic is like family i'll slag them off but dont anyone else dare... i lived across the pond in the south and theres a lot worse than religious bigotry. i'm as passionate now as i have ever been towards the hoops. would be nice if the original poster would give us their answers

How do you view and feel towards rangers fans?
In general I hate them with a passion, but their is the odd fan that is ok.

Would your dedication to your team lead to violence?
No, I love my club too much.

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in?
As stated by other members unless it was a friend/family then no.

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)?
Religion is a part but only because of my families history.

How do you view and feel towards rangers fans?
Nothing they support a team same as me, my friends support various teams in the spl so there is some good banter during a match or drinking sesh and its all good humoured.

Would your dedication to your team lead to violence?
    No

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in?
    No

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)?
When i was a bairn about 5 or 6 my dad (an aberdeen supporter) set out some pagini stickers and he says i kept picking up the green one, so he swore at me mum and went out and bought me my first celtic top and I have been a fan ever since.

I think as a study there's a flaw in this survey. It takes into account nothing in the way of age or *. The ages here are maybe 12 to 112. A proper study would best be done outside CP, properly noting these things, if the study is to be worth anything. Otherwise the comments are totally worthless IMO.

Plus, the great majority of members here will probably not answer.

    1. My best mate is a hun- unbelievable! (To be fair he is a retired Copland Roader and thinks that they are complete pish now)- He has been to see Celtic twice with me now!
    2. Violence -now no- but in the late 70's and in the 80's it was hard to avoid-you did get caught up in it even if you tried to avoid it- I remember having the Thornliebank Orange walk chasing a group of about 10 of us in the early 80's just after the huns beat us in a Glasgow Cup Final at Hampden- that was scary- there was well over 50 of them!
    3. I would rather take the * than have a square go these days- but you really you can't let you guard down- forget about the huns , this applies in a normal Staurday night out as well!
    4. Took to the Celtic with my Da- Ain't looked back since! They still do it for me!

Depends which Rangers fans we're talking about. If you mean the famine's-over-up-to-our-knees-in-blood crowd, then I try not to despise them. I see them as victims of a dismal, bigoted, self-defeating mindset.

No. As a Celtic supporter, that would harm my team. It's not our way.

No. Not unless someone vulnerable (and that goes for either side) was getting targeted.

    "Pure, beautiful, inventive football."
We may not always live up to the ideal, but I think it's still a good one. :50:

How do you view and feel towards rangers fans?
there are scummy fans on both sides and good oens on both either so if i ever was too dislike a rangers fan it wouldnt be beause he supports them but for something that he or she has done i would imagine

Would your dedication to your team lead to violence?
not a hope i think its a disgrace when i see some of our "fans" shaming our club such as some rangers fans have done to their club in manchester etc

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in?
as someone else said only if someone was vunerable, picked on etc other than that if it is not my place to jump in then i wouldnt unless its trying to help break it up before anythuing serious would happen

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)?
i suppose you could say location; ie my house:56: my dad and brotehr and all that supports them so ive always followed them since i was yopung and loved watching them play since i was young

If you saw football related violence between celtic and rangers fans, would you join in? No,common sense would prevail.

Whats your reason for supporting celtic (eg religion, location, quality of football, etc)? Initially it was escapism from my then life.. from the very first match i was captivated. :celt_2:

Hating Rangers doesn't make you any more of a Celtic fan I don't think. I hate them as much as it's possible to hate anything but I would never claim to be any more of a Celtic fan than anybody else.

All I can tell you is that(and this may sound terrible to some) Celtic mean as much to me as my family and that I think about them every hour of every day that I live. If that makes me a great fan then fantastic. If it doesn't then ok.

I love Celtic and hate Rangers. End of story. I'm sure many others on this forum share those feelings. :celt_2:

The only two Scottish Rangers fans I've ever met were incredible people, but I don't like reading stories of what goes on in the media, and think they have more of a violence/sectarian problem than Celtic (being an outside observer).

    Not with Celtic, no.

No, at least not because of club affiliation. If there was a "right" side and a "wrong" side, I'd treat it like any other confrontation.

Henrik Larsson. Been a fan since 2003.
