    I know I'm being pedantic but "El Clasico" isn't actually a derby in my eyes - it'd be Atletico v's Real or Barca v's Espanyol.

    It's the same as saying ManUre v's Liverpool is a derby, cos it's the 2 biggest clubs who have a rivalry for the championship, but we don't call that game a "derby" - it's Liverpool v's Everton today, which is a derby.


    Pedantic *, but it has always annoyed me.

    surely barca madrid is a derby whereas barca espanyol is a local derby? i kind of know what you mean though.

    Barca - Real match has much bigger rivalry and historic background than atletico-real or barca-espanyol. Actually, in Spain, as far as the city derbies, the biggest is Sevilla-Betis.
