Lambert was a better all rounder. It is not even a debate. Lennon was a better holding player though. In fact I have never seen anyone better than Lennon in that role for us. Overall Lambert every day of the week.

Loved lennon, seemed to be the key stone during MON era, but lambert is one of my favourite celts of my time. Used to love watching him dictate the tempo of a game. Lambert overall for me.

Lambert was a better player, Lenny was more important if that makes sense and I realise it doesn't :smiley-laughing002:

I agree totally Lambert was a far superior player. He could do everything Lenny could do and a * of a lot more.

Mean no disrespect to Lennon though who was a outstanding player for us, and was just superb it breaking up play and reading the game.

He couldnt really though, Lennon was definitely better than Lambert at holding midfield, Lennon seemed to always be in the right place at the right time to mop up or intercept or that as if he was a centre-back playing higher up the park. Lambert wasnt really as good at that, Lambert was more like Scott Brown but with the ability on the ball of Petrov.

When Lamberts legs went he became fairly poor after Seville, never really kicked a ball in his last two seasons, where as Lennon was as probably as immobile as Lambert was in 2003/04 at the same time yet played 3 seasons at a good level and even a decent 4th season as he was so good at that role.

I dont think you can say he was far superior, like Larsson was far superior to Hooper, Moravcik to Commons, Sutton to Vennegoor, McNamara to Mark Wilson, Gordon to Douglas. Both of them were very good players just slightly different styled.

Lambert was the complete midfielder, amazing for club and country!

Scholes would have never have scored THOSE goals at Hampden if Lambert hadn't ran into Albertz Knee with his face.

Lenny was very important too and if wasn't playing you really missed him.

But Lambert for me along with McStay the best I've seen.

Voted Lenny as per Markybhoy's question: Lenny did more for us (as a player). Nevertheless Lambert was the better player IMO.

I was in the temp stand that night. If the ball burst the net (as it almost did) it would have clocked me right in the coupon.

Thought that temp stand was going to collapse that night, what an atmosphere.

To be classed as a complete midfielder I think you need more goals to your game. Lambert was a well rounded player but defensive in style. A complete midfielder would have done Lamberts job but scored or assisted 15 goals a season where as we only got about 5/6 goals/assists out Lambert a season.

From 1999-2005 Lambert only assisted 13 goals and scored 16 in 192 games.

Scott Brown has 20 goals and 24 assists in his last 193 games, nobody would call him that great at attacking yet he contributed quite a lot more than Lambert going forward.

As a player Paul Lambert but for his overall contribution to Celtic Neil Lennon by a very long way.

I know but think some are exaggerating Lambert a wee bit. We all know he was a great player, probably Scotlands best player of the last 25 year but think he's being made out to be overhyped a bit here people saying complete player and as good as Lennon defensively and better going forward.

Id say more like not far off as good as Lennon defensively and not far off as good as Petrov going forward, a decent balance of the two while leaning more toward Lennon's style than Petrovs.

Well reading a few posts like "he was miles better than Lennon", "a complete midfielder", "not even a debate" you'd think he dominated SPL teams like a Schweinsteiger, Gerrard or Yaya Toure where he scored/created goals for fun and bossed midfield with ease.
