No its the opposite, just because it is the Celtic captain who has a witch hunt against him is the reason some people are aghast and shocked at it.Whoever heard of a captain having to apologise to fans for a tactical foul to stop someone scoring.
    Faithful through and through.

Good shout mate, Driver never made much of it, but McManus is simply not good enough to be a central defender with celtic.

    No I suppose he didn't.

I'm just glad Driver didn't have his leg planted at the time of the tackle though or things could have turned out very differently.

    Get a grip man

In my day (watching Celtic since the Lisbon Lions era)...that tackle was seen on many, many occasions......if you ever watched Jinky at home against the mob or especially in european games, he was often dealt with in this manner....they called it 'professionalism' then....Mick obviously didn't have the pace to catch the player and so, while there was still time on the clock, he opted to be sent off and chance a late equalizer than see his team possibly go two down.
What I don't get is people on here protesting vehemetly that Mick should....A/ never play for the club again
B/ be stripped of the captaincy
C/ that he's somehow a disgrace to CFC
D/ that he tried to 'do' the player as in the John Kennedy incident

    For fucksake....get a *' grip.
I don't even rate McManus at all but talk about a witch hunt.....just face it we got beat not by a better side but by the laws of Murphy....'cause many a day those near misses have gone in and we've strolled it.
The people on here are usually quite negative but I was happy to see that there is some folk prepared to stand up and be counted and see things for what the really are.
Are we not being just a tad too ready with the old 'sack the manager' routine........'Celts for Change' will never happen again at this club so we should be grateful that change took place when it did and give Tony Mowbray and the 'BOARD' a half decent chance to get things right and let the manager put his own team on the park.....much as I loved the whole MON era.....TM won't get that type of cash to spend without producing the goods first...how's that fair?
And so in summation.....support yer *' team not try to undermine them.......unless your a WGS fan....then get it intae yer heed that he really left nothing for the next guy to work with....be honest now...did he?

I was embarrassed TBH as I was angry with what the state of play was at the time
I could take you back to the Rangers game when VGoH took out a player just the same way and I was delighted.

So in looking at both instances I all depend of what the result is at the time. Marshall did it against Motherwell and got sent off and we went on to win the game.

So all in all we have to put it into perspective and I'm sure if we where winning 2-1 it would be talked about in the way it is.

I'm normally someone who's very critical of bad challenges, but for me this wasn't in the worst category.

The reason it was bad is simply how late it was. Late enough to merit a red card? Yes. It was a sending-off offence.

But there's a big difference between a tackle where you go in on the guy's leg, & a tackle where you put your leg in front of him to trip him, and this was the latter.

I suspect if it had been certain other Celtic players (or at a time when the team was doing well) folk would have been laughing and saying "Woah, he wasn't taking any prisoners!" I've never been a big McManus fan myself, but I feel there's a certain amount of double standards in operation here, could be wrong...

I'm not a fan of McManus, in fact quite the opposite, but I agree with this post.

Having read through this whole thread, watched the incident again a few times and thought the whole thing through I'm willing to concede that I probably over-reacted a bit last night.

I still think it was an absolutely terrible tackle but calling for a public apology was probably a bit strong. It's a fair cop. :50:

I hope to never see McManus making a tackle like that again though, it was a bit embarassing.

The last time i saw a tackle like that was in 1978 at primary school,i'm surprised he did'nt just grab the ball and say he was'nt playing anymore.Celtic Captain don't make me laugh.

Had I noticed that I would have also thought it was * poor. I don't like the idea of hurting a player to gain an advantage.

I think McManus was of the thinking that he was so far up the pitch and out to the side that a yellow is all that would be merited. In fact he wasn't far off because that's what the referee originally gave.

It wasn't a malicious tackle, but he could've fouled him in a less clumsy and obvious fashion. He was trying to save time because Driver had the pace to go into goal or take it to the corner, wasting a huge amount of time.

McManus had a good game apart from the foul so it's a shame people are acting so outraged.

please close this thread as its outrageous! Best fans in the world are we, only a handful supporting the team at the moment. The rest, all you here is we hate mowbray, oh no, we hate caldwell, wait no, we hate macmanus! Just who will be next, maybe that should be the next poll. We all have a duty to support the club, not hound them at every mistake!

Why should the thread be closed. It is perfectly justifiable IMO. We have a right to debate the strengths and weaknesses of our team in an honest and rational way, if we are ever going to aspire to be greater than the sum parts of our total. It is not about hatred, it is about objective assessment of the assets and liabilities of the team, and at this moment in time I would say McManus is a liability to the team with his constant * ups and howlers.

His brutul tackle on Andrew Driver was quite hun like in my opinion, and reminiscent of the kind of thing you would expect from McCulloch, Lafferty, and McGregor etc.

I am only sorry that McManus didn't accept the loan deal to Ipswich Town, then we might not be in the mess we find ourselves.

Debate the strengths and weakness - are you serious? All that has been happening lately is slating. I think you should go and listen to the AGM which has been posted here.

I think if you look at the players we have available then the best combo is caldwell and macmanus, neither have played particularly well with Loovens.

Hun like? That just shows what kind of narrow minded opinions are being put accross. It was a football tackle, i would have done it myslef, no malice, no attempt to injur the player in question but an attempt to break up a promision attack, which succeeded. Had we another 5 minutes i think we may have been applauding macmanus now, however the timing wasn't the best!

I am only sorry that there are fans slating the players we have when our team is going through a trasition phase. Are we faithful through and through? or are we letting our players walk alone?

Admin, i apologise for back seat monitoring, not intended!

If you pause this at 5seconds precisely you can actually see Mc'Manus' eyes actually looking at driver as the ball is 4/5feet ahead
