IMO McManus would struggle to get a starting slot in most of the other SPL's top six sides....I honestly think mowbry has a blind spot( as some manager do) with this guy or he just aint got the balls to strip him of the captaincy and drop him....Darren O'Dea is twice the player IMO

i dont understand why everyone gives him a hard time. He's the only center back who dusnt mind to get hurt for his team. Gary calwell is * in the air and makes too many mistakes and i know McManus does sumtimes aswell but he makes alot of good tackles that alot of use seem to miss. And yes loovens is good in the air bu he is just as bad as mcmanus on the ground and he is not half as brave as big mick. So leave the guy alone he shows guts and determination every wee, hes not perfect but best we have.

i think mick done well in those 3 in a row seasons, a really solid defender who was still fairly young and playing against quality in the CL and not being made out the diddy that everyone says he is.

playing thro injury last season hindered his form but i think he can come good, we have seen in the past how playing thro injuries can can set players back for a spell but I hope Mick comes good again and grows into a captain we can all be proud of.

McManus is a nice guy, maybe too nice, and is full of effort and determination but all of this is with Zero football ability. Had a shocker today again though. You shouldnt have to keep going on about how bad your own Captain is but yet here we are still talking about it. Think he and Celtic would both be better off if he left in January.

a very honest professional which makes it so hard for me to bring myself to criticise him, but unfortunately he isn't the greatest defender i've ever seen.

i absolutely love the guy's attitude and for that i would keep him as back-up if we invest in january.

i'd have him before caldwell as both are of around the same level ability wise, but mick's attitude is far surperior.

it really does get to me that i have to criticise him as i genuinely like they guy.

Im sick to death about whinging about our players, obviously most people that claim hes rank rotten have never achieved much in their sporting lifetimes and never will. Im not saying hes a world beater, far from it but hes playing prob the most unforgiving position on the park (apart from keeper) playing cb you either look very average or solid, nothing more nothing less.

he's the only CB i can think of that can't tackle . Seriously the amount of times you see him go in for a tackle and miss the guy (and the ball)completely is amazing .

I would love to defend McManus here as I've met him and he's a complete gentleman, but that doesn't hide the fact that as a player, he's limited. I've seen him put in some solid defensive displays and he can head the ball well and make some good blocks too. But too often, he lunges into tackles, his reading of the game isn't great and his distribution is poor. He has no pace and is a liability in the system that Mowbray wants to play.

It's good that he's managed to be a first team captain for us and win the league and league cup as he's a Celt through and through but I think we need better.

so he's a gentleman, most of the people who fill parkhead can be called gentleman but would u have any of them playing centre half? he cant tackle/pass/head or read the game. id rather have a centre half with decent ability whos an areshole than have a friendly useless * defending us..

I'm saying it's a shame he's not such a good player because he is gentleman.

Mcmanus, nice lad, his heart is in the right place & is totally committed to the team. But his biggest problem is he works hard instead of working smart! Both him & cauldwell get caught ball watching so many times in games, its unbelievable. You can get away with one of your centre backs having no awareness of other players movements, but having two is just a nightmare.

    How is it his fault???????????

We had forward who couldnt score, It's their job remember, against Rangers, Hibs and Hearts.

Out of those games we lost 1, and conceded 1..................He didnt play any of them.....

    REMEMBER.......defending starts at the front
