Football has proven to be resilient to the recession and if you were in his position, you'd be trying to get a big contract in the prime of your career. Dont try to feed us this line of crap that you would take a pay cut as a football when you can easily get a big pay rise at another club. Why should he feel guilty? Not his fault that Setanta went bust and every other league continues to out muscle the SPL.

Football careers are short and players are entitled to earned what they can while they can. They arent highly paid civil servants, they are contracted professionals and when employers play that game, this is what happens when contract renewal time comes about.

 

Yes people are wrong to pillory caldwell or any other player for trying to get the best deal for themselves as any of us would do in the same position and the test comes when he has to decide what to do next if whats offered isnt improved but i have to say its looking as if he will go and if he does we all move on simple as that players come and go and the playing staff changes every year

 

I agree for most part. The highlighted part is baws tho. NO PLAYER DESERVES the amount of money about. Not just on Heids part but ALL pros. The biggest earners dont deserve 3-5 even 9 mil a season or 2. its * stupid. They aren't entitled to make millions a, per season, while we have to over pay to watch it. Especially in teh Scottish game. Aye they mite noi be the biggest earners, but niehter are the punters.
I'm not sayin caldwell disnae deserve a better contract but he disne deserve 20k a week.

If thers any1 on here/out there, that does a more important job than playin football then you should be cryin for 20k a week, i.e savin lives on a regular basis, on the frontlines, in the hospitals etc, what makes fitbaw players think they deserve millions? ( and before anyone says thats wot its all about, not a chance. fitbaw stars wern't payed a country's debt(exaggeration) to "kick a baw"years ago.

But goin by the "modern" why should a player * out and ask for a raise after sub-standard perfonrmances? As soonas the form that was shown last year then aye feel free giv him 20 k.But O'Dea who is just as good will play for what hes on, considering he just signed a 3 year deal.

Firstly, the way he left Hibs to join us showed us the sort of man he is! Secondly, Ive watched him playing 50/60 times and Ive never been impressed. Frankly, O'Dea has more potential than Caldwell ever did, and he can't get a game ahead of him! Madness! His first touch left a lot to be desired and he doesn't always make the right decision. The only time he impressed me was when he was playing the distruptive role between midfield and defence. He was able to get involved and stop their midfield but was covered when he made one of his gaffes!

Don't rate him and when he walks out of Parkhead next summer on a free, which wouldn't be like him, I won't be too upset!

 

Whats wrong with leaving a club on a free transfer? The failure to sell for a fee whilst there is a year remaining would be the club's fault, not the player.

 

Aye that may well be but if the club aren't selling him to club he wants to go to he can sit out his contract then go to the club he wants to on a free!

They undercut Caldwell so they can justify the likes of Boruc, McGeady & Brown on much higher salaries, players who also have many high profile blunders in the past, players that have plenty of poor performances under their belt, not to mention off the field problems.
