When looking at our strike force it is clearly evident that Skippy is a must. Having seen numerous potential teams on this forum without Skippy its starting to confuse me. I think its solely a matter of partnering our best striker. He needs a partner and that is a big problem. I know there a lot of Sammy fans out there and I agree sometimes he puts in a good game, but his first touch is terrible and he is one of the worst 6"4 strikers I have ever seen in the air. Killen is a no-goer for me - maybe against weak SPL teams. It all comes back to Fortune - I think TM had always planned on playing Skippy and Fortune and when he got injured really didn't have a back up plan. Without being given enough funds we are now stuck with a style of football that doesn't fit the players available. With Fortune being a target man/hold up player and playing off Skippy - and bringing Geads and Maloney into play we would have been a much different team imo. Fortune getting injured has * up TM's plans. Anyway, Scott McDonald is one of the first names on the teamsheet and always should be imo - by far our best goalscorer - just needs the service.

Scott mcdonald is a great wee striker but his first touch is also a bit suspect.

Skippy scores goals at all levels, He has been incredible value for money. When he is on top form (which he hasnt been this season) I think he could easily do a job in the EPL. HIs touch seems to vary from game to game. Its weird.

What i like about Skippy is that sometimes his poor first touch is what sets him up for his goals...

Defenders usually prepare themselves for the striker cushioning the ball well and turning into the space that would normally be there for a striker of decent technique...

But his goals dont lie and neither do the opponents he's banged them into; Man Utd, AC Milan, Rangers etc etc

He isn't a Kris Boyd who'll get you dozens of goals in games you're going to thump the team anyway, he's a proven goalscorer for £750,000.

That is a hard thing to find.

He just needs the right person next to him, I think its clear him and Sammy arent a partnership. He's scored great goals in his 1st 2 seasons but will benefit from wingers that cross the ball early and a striker to take the physical burden off him. with him and Fortune fully fit and Sammy making the impact from the bench i'd be confident of us getting the goals.

Anybody having a serious go at McDonald needs to remember that the days of being able to spend big money on quality strikers like Hartson and Sutton are long gone as now we can only dream of being able to compete with Premiership wages. The fact of the matter is that McDonald has scored a lot of goals for the team, and we simply cannot afford to risk buying in proven goalscorers from outside of the SPL. Obviously Fortune was never a proven goalscorer, despite the steep price tag, but I'll wager that wanting to play under Mowbray gave us the bargaining power we needed to tie him down to a contract we can work with.

Long story short; he's no Larsson but he's as good as we can hope for at our level without breaking the bank and/or wage structure.
