The current proposal is a crock of *, has been roundly ridiculed as a ill thought out and will more than likely receive the same reception when officially proposed.

    It's not even worth discussion.

Automatic qualification for the Champions League is no longer a certainty every season, even if we win the League. Potential income generated by being in the EPL2 would be better compared to the lesser Europa League.

The unfortunate reality is that success costs money today, and a successfull football club needs cash to make it happen and keep it that way. We can't get that in the SPL nor can we get enough out of Europe anymore, so we have to start considering our position in the world.

The EPL is certainly the biggest league in the world - not necessarily the best, but certainly the biggest - and there is a lot of potential for expansion for us in there, both on and off the park.

People talk about the board and ambition. What ambition is there in staying here and sliding further and further behind when, as one of the biggest clubs in the world, we ought to be leading the way?

The important thing to remember is that in the end it all comes down to what makes the most money, and there are Hundreads of people down south who are salivating at the thought of being able to exploit the vast untapped Goldmine of fan suppport that is the Old Firm, I think a move if it is going to happen will happen soon since the EPL is really starting to feel the Financial crisis know that Britain is not coming out of the recession has well as hoped, what will happen to Manchester United or Liverpool if their banks start losing more money and Have to call in those loans just to survive, they will either collapse or pull a Leeds, The additional revenue from bringing in Celtic and Rangers would make an already rich league even richer. If the Financial Crisis worsens we will be invited along with the scum, to join the EPL outright, we will probably have to pay some money, but at least we will be in the top league, if the Finanicla crisis stays the same or only gets slightly better, we will be invited to the Championship. Either way Celtic must get out of the SPL, Even of the rest of the scottish league is starting to improve steadily, it is mostly because the Old firm teams are declining in quality, no money will be coming in, no matter how good teams like Dundee united and Aberdeen do, no one wants to pay to see them play which is what is killin scottish football

nah. I think the mentality that its all about money is killing football. All we need is for the SKY bubble to burst. Then we will have a better market position for good players. The SPLs decline has a lot to do with SKY money. Any half way decent Scottish player who the old firm dont sign leaves for the bottom of the EPL or the championship because of the money. If that stops then the SPL will keep/get better players. I want to see an end to this uber capitalist period of British football and a return to some sanity. UEFA need to step in and cap wages. Its not as though there is no precident for doing it. There was a cap in place until the 60s. We managed to be the best in Europe with Scottish players playing in a Scottish league before.

Guys, I follow English football. You seriously dont want to be apart of the EPL do yous? Especially the EPL divided into 2? Celtic would go to probably the bottom of English football and have to work their way up. This, financially would cripple Celtic. There is no way Celtic would just appear in one of the 2 EPLs ahead of Championship teams.

Also the idea of 2 EPLs is just romanticised horse *. The 2nd tier would just take over the role of the Championship now. It would NOT be 2 Premier Leagues, it would be 1 Premier League and a 2nd division. Do you think teams wouldnt be gutted to get relegated from EPL1 to EPL2? Course they would. EPL2 would lose stature and become a * league like the Championship.

The Prem COULD be reduced now and filled with better teams as imo it is filled with * like Hull, Stoke, Bolton, Wolves etc. However this is not the way to rectify that problem. This is a terrible idea and the idea of EPL1 and EPL2 is a joke and nothing should of a commercialised mockery of football.

Celtic in English leagues is definitely not a good idea as well! Would yous seriously want to be part of an English league? What happens to the SPL? What happens to Celtic if Scotland gets its Independence in the coming years? Back up to the SPL? Stick where yous are and as someone already said, raise the quality of the SPL. * the EPL.

I agree with Gunts post tbh.

Being of Scottish identity and doing really well in amongst the big spenders is something i'm highly proud of.

I love that we do so well on limited resource and as club from a small country contesting year in year out is something to be proud about.

I say f**k the EPL because sooner or later that bubble will bust,it's simply not sustainable and for me the meaning of Celtic would be lost through greed and power hungry boards... not for me sorry.

Move south and say goodbay to winning trophies, possibly for ever.

Celtic will always be a prudent cub and would run along the lines of an Everton.

We simply would never go hundreds of milions of punds into debt in order to win the league.

The teams that spend the most will be Chealsea, Man Utd, and City. Then in Europe, we'd be extremely lucky to qualify for CL, where we'd have to face them all again anyway.

I'm surprised more people don't see this side. To me it's pretty straightforward. I'd be genuinley interested to see a specific counter-argument to this. :celt_2:

Who said we'd a prudent club if we joined the epl??. It's not winning spl trophy that makes us a big club its our fan base/history. Who's to say we wouldn't get an investor, that can see potential in the glasgow sleeping giant. I'm sorry i don't see any down side for celtic & the fans for joining the epl, only the pond life of scottish football will suffer but what exactly have they given us through the years? It's a no-brainer my friend.

We are now all with sky andits always been the case that tv and tv money would dictate if it happened and its always possible . One point here is that the epl are bringing in a rul about home grown players in a squad and i wonder if due to this to an extent they are looking at other ways of keeping the money flowing .

lol! what can we do to improve our league? well re-vamp it from grass roots to international for starters .

get shot of the 3rd division
make the division 1,2 bigger with these teams from the 3rd 2nd moving up!
make the spl bigger with some 1st division teams comming in!
have a 3 up 3 down scenario, with the 3rd bottom maybe playing the 3rd top in the 1st in a one of play off at hampden?
get shot of some daft rules we have in place just now!
one body in scottish football decideing on all things in scottish football!
punt half of the ancient clueless clowns at the sfa and replaceing them with people with a new vision and ideas on how to make the league better and also hopefully with this more lucrative sponsorships and investments will come!
get something in place to get the fans from killie, falkifrk, dunfermline etc back through supporting them and filling the ground even when its on tv.

we have to sort out our league to * with the epl i want a good exciteing strong scottish spl! we need to do this! we must do this? and if we do not move now we will see our game thats been going on for way over a centuary confined to the history books! * that i say. i wish folk would stop getting a stiffy er the * epl ! its no that * great.

and also this can be done the french done this and look at them now! they have their own french football academy also! we should do this also.

France has a population of 65 million.
Don't pretend population isn't a major hangup for development of SPL.
If you're deadset against EPL, your next best option is to merge leagues with Ireland and Norway. Outside of us and the huns, they're all on a similar level anyway. Together you'd have a similar pop as Netherlands.

Adding even more * under-funded teams to SPL isn't going to make it any better.

no one is interested in spl. who seriously would invest the same if not even remotely similar cash to epl in our league that no one watches. the spl is a dying league and we are rapidly losing our giant club status. i'd take a move to the championship in a heartbeat.

Scottish football is in a sad sate if we are honest about it and i dont think the people who can do something about it care so long as they remain in power.
How are clubs going to improve when they get 1/2/3/4/5 thousand at a home game its just a crazy mess.

may be I'm old fashioned, but pride and tradition over money in my books. I know english money is tempting, playing against man united, chelsea, liverpool is a great thing and it could help us developing further as a team.

but my fascination with Celtic doesn't have anything to do with success nor money. it's all about traditions, about fighting till the last man, about the celtic family or to cut a long story short it's all about Brother Walfrid stood for. that's why Celtic are so unique!

I'd rather lose with 4-5 Scotsmen and a few Irishmen against a decent European side than winning against Chelsea with 11 mercenaries.

I know we have become a pretty modern club, it's all about money and business nowadays unfortunately. I don't want my club to make the last step and eventually sell it's soul and join a foreign league just for a few bucks more and become a money-orientated business like everyone else in that league.
