dunno about that mate, i feel we more than matched them over 2 legs. just unfortunate that luck wasnt on our side. we were put out by 3 freak goals imo, (deflection, OG and that wee * diving)

agreed. they have won nothing can be done now. lady luck definetly shined on them over the 2 legs tho. i wouldnt have minded if it werent for that little * diving tbh. i honestly didnt expect to get anything from the tie after park head anyway.

Yeah true that mate. We had 2 shots on target over the 2 legs i think. Not good enough, but really if we had the money they have available to them, with the stature of this club we would beat teams like Arsenal. But without that money we cant really compete, so i am really proud of the lads. They might not be as good as Arsenal but they gave it everything and thats all i can ask. At least we didnt disgrace ourselves. If luck and decisions had went our way things might have worked out differently.Who knows.

The only, and I mean the only, "disgusting" thing about the tie was the dive, nothing else.

Without the fluke, the O.G. and the dive, we could have battled to a result. However, over the two legs they were the better team, it would have taken lady luck to have been on our side to have beaten them.

To me, it's a bit of a 'what could have been' facing a stronger opponent, you need luck on your side, we did'nt have the luck, they did, and thats why it finished 5-1.

We got what we deserved tho.. and by that I mean missing out on the champs league b/c we failed to beat a * poor Rangers team last year. Ah well, walk on.

In the first leg a fair result would have been 0-0. That says to me that we held our own. Tonight we were doing fine, ok Eduardo missed a sitter, until the 'penalty'. That finished the tie. Arsenal's second and 3rd goals were scored at a time when our heads had gone down and the tie was over. Over the 2 legs Artur Boruc didn't have many saves to make(neither did Almunia to be fair). There really wasn't much in it. A scabby deflected goal, an own goal and a penalty that never was killed us off. We did ok. We played a team better than us and barring hideously bad luck and hideously bad refereeing we gave them a game.

Not many teams in the Europa League will want to draw us.

the brutal truth is that they are streets ahead in terms of quality on the park, they have
better players than us simple as that. if we had the money to compete with them it would be a different matter but we are stuck in the spl with what we have so we just
have to make the best of it folks. hail hail!

Our boys done the best they could do, thats good enough for me. Bitterly disappointed we didnt go through of course but Arsenal could even afford to have 5 or so of their best players missing and they still eased past us.

I dont want to be negative on us, sometimes you just have to accept reality. Time to move on and try and be more competitive in the Europa League.

They deserved to win over the 2 legs, yes we matched them but they scored 2 good goals and we scored 1 in injury time with the game finished.

Our luck was * and we were cheated but that only serves to leave a bitter taste in the mouth rather than suggest we deserved more.

Cheer up malone, we'll still finish the season with 3 maybe 4 trophies in our back pocket while arsenal will finish the season with * all apart from the same excuses they've had for the past 4 years. We were never going to win the Champions League, we can admit that, but Arsenal are never going to win it either.

It is a bad result given our history of results against English opposition and it highlights the extent as to how the money in the game has ruined our chances of competing fairly. They are gifted the funds and the platform to bring the best youngsters in the world to their club and we have to scour through the bargin bins hoping to find a gem that the rich clubs have missed. Sad days.

We may have stood up to them well and were very unlucky to end up 3-0 down in the tie in the manner we did but their quality showed. They were faster, stronger and more skillful than us, but what do you expect when you look at the spending power they have compared to us.

In days gone by we have not been as handicapped as we are now when it comes to playing English teams, thats why we have always faired well against them throughout our history. I fear now that the 5-1 scoreline against us could become more common now as the gulf between us and the might of the Premiership clubs armed with all their cash keeps on getting bigger.
