I think people are expecting our forwards to do a Messi and take on 3 players before placing the ball cooly away...

The only problem I had with Fortune was that he seems to take up a position on the forward/wide right. I'd prefer him to be central but what do I know. He didn't get hardly any service and let's face it, we were playing a World Class side.

i reckon Mowbray is making him play really wide. cause this gives the midfield an option to play it to him and allow more midfielders to get into the box which in turn will provide more goals for our midfield.

i honestly think we need to go out an buy a goal scorer because at the minute we just dont have one, from the game i watched tonite fortune was * and mc donald was awful his first touch is a tackle! i know its not easy to go out and find a decent striker but for me none of our forwards r good enough at this level although im still hoping fortune will prove me wrong, samaras and killen dont cut the mustard either! :31:

he will be ok in the spl and he'll get goals but tonight he did nothing, gave away the ball almost every time; didnt hold up * all except the play. played one good pass and skippy was offside. he himself was offside far too many times. but hey, give him a chance he's only just got here. i remember Henriks first game and i said, * useless. i.ll give the guy a chance.

I agree mate. he's defo not European class, but then we'd need to spend at least £10m to get a player anywhere near the same class as half of strikers in the C.L. top teams. I actually am begining to like Fortune. He does like up well when he has other players round him. Truth is Arsenal kept us camped in our own half and when we did get the ball to Fortune, they squeezed the game up and made it hard for us to get up in support, so was hard for him to link up with anyone.

He'll get abit more space in the SPL and will score a few goals. Think if Fortune is going to take up the position on the Flanks, then we need a Target Man to play off him. Can't really compare the two, but Bellamy played in similar areas to Fortune. Granted he has abit more speed and class but he did play on the wings alot of the time. Bellamy had big Johnny Hartson to play off of, and to pick up the scraps from his knock ons in behind.

Think we would see the best of Fortune if we could get him a big strong CF to play up top with. McDonald isn't the answer... Too wee, too slow and his touch is murder. Tries hard but being good at trying isn't good enough. i'm sorry but £3-3.5m.:bbpd:

HIs partner in crime escapes criticism all too often imo.

I thought that was the best performance he has put in for Celtic so far tbh, don't have any problems with him after that whatsoever. He held the ball up well, dropped deep to help consistently and was dragging his marker out wide all night.

I can see where folk are coming from when they slate him for doing all his work in wide areas but they're going to have to soon realise that is the way Mowbray wants him to play and it is crucial to how his team is set out with 2 drifting wide men.

I honestly think I have seen enough of fortune to proclaim his somewhat of a diddy. 3.8 millions? Your having a laugh. We don't spend that money for spl goals, Chris fecking Killen will get you goals in the spl if you play him...

Fortune has came to us without a goal scoring record..and he shows no sign of getting prolific soon.

    fortune was dreadful

How could this have been Fortune's best game yet? He spent half his time 40 yards away from his striking partner so when the ball was played upfield there was no one to knock it down to. Fortune should have been yanked off at half time and I think it was his worst display in a Celtic jersey. Not the worst performer tonight though. I thought Brown was pretty anonymous and did little to show his high transfer fee..

    Fortune Failing

A little less than 2 months ago, before he had even kicked a ball, I wrote the following......

    ""Dear *, it's a nightmare unfolding.....

Well maybe not, but picture this. When Martin O'Neill came to CP, he brought with him players from the top league, and we got the likes of Sutton, Thompson, Lennon and Hartson. When Strachan came along, we got his circle of influence...Lee Naylor anyone? So along comes Mogga, and what the plan? The likes of a failed striker called Marc-Antoine Fortune whose strike rate is no better than what we already have.""

After dozens of replies all telling me to keep the faith, have some belief and give Fortune the chance. Well after tonights performance, I am more vehement in my belief that Fortune is a nightmare....and a real expensive one at that. Tonight, against Arsenal, he was the true lone wanderer leaving his strike partner alone in the box. Long ball comes in, there was no one to knock the ball down because Fortune was 40 yards away somewhere on the wing.

The man has absolutely no tactical awareness and creates very little but more hard work for Macdonald when they play together.

Of course, I am not blaming Fortune for the Arsenal defeat. Arsenal's speed of movement was quite superb.. Their bench cost more money than our whole team put together...tv money at work, I am afraid.

I wonder how many of those who criticised my article still stands by Fortune as the marquee signing to take Celtic forward.

As a forward, Fortune needs to be there for the knock downs, or, since it's his apparant strength, to hold the ball up for his striking partner. Unfortunately, you cant do that from the wing. He has no idea how to play up front. Tonight against Arsenal, we needed goals and this guy couldnt hit the side of a house from 5 yards away.

And for all those who proclaim how well he will do in the SPL, everyone knows that we will come first or second no matter who is up front. The TalkCeltic goalie could do alright and score a few up front for Celtic in this crappy league of ours...which I do believe is perhaps the worst it has ever been.

I cant help but go back to thinking, managers bring the players they have been surrounded with, and Mogga, much as I love his play better than Strachan's was surrounded with losers who got relegated. I wonder how our 4m would have been spent if we had taken Bilic when he was gasping for the job.

I honestly can't believe Fortune is still the one getting stick when McDonald played a lot worse than Fortune last night.

Someone please tell me one thing that McDonald done last night apart from the usual straying offside when Fortune puts a perfect pass in to the box for him to score? His 1st touch is what can only be compared to an elephant's and if he spent less time moaning and more time trying to play football he might do a better job. Give Samaras and Fortune a chance up front together. Samaras could not play any worse than McDonald is at the moment.
