Anyone interested in it ? Or know much about it ? I've taken great interest to it in the last year and am looking to maybe be a phsycologist for a living when I'm older.

Studied it for a year at Uni. Wasn't quite as exciting as I'd hoped, but I think it's one of those subjects that gets a lot more interesting later on, once you've got all the basics out the way.

The one thing that's really stuck with me is the idea of cognitive dissonance: i.e. that one of the most basic human motivations is to avoid internal contradictions. So for example, a woman who believes that all black folk are lowlifes, and then sees a black guy chasing after a mugger, will assume that he's actually an accomplice - to avoid contradiction with her existing belief system. So an experience which should contradict the original prejudice actually strengthens it.

I think that happens a lot, and it's made me realise how important it is not to get fixed ideas about anything - cos they tend to just reinforce themselves further, regardless of the facts...

its a tough career. my GF has just finished her PHD and its been torture at times. 3 years at uni, 3 gaining experience and 3 doing a PHD. only do it if your dedicated and want to pursue it, as i know people with psychology degrees who work in mobile phone shops

Everyone is an * psychologist. It's how we're able to live with each other. It's a fascinating subject. I'm currently reading through two psychology books and although I'm no-where near being an expert at it, I'd recommend studying it even if only for a year. In terms of job opportunities, they're not abundant and competition is fierce.

You could probably search online for potential careers in the field and make a decision from there.

Aye probably better being an * because proffesional phsycology is a lot different, it's mostly about using scientific equations to find out why we act in certain ways.
