Midfielder who is not afraid of a shot :31:
Annoyed me so much last season, especially towards the end, when we just seemed to try and pass the ball into the net, instead of just having a ping ! I wish we could sign somebody capable of shooting from range instead of just poaching goals. Crosas vs St. Mirren was the only long range goal i can remember from last season.

    Eh... right.

We've spent a couple of years with no decent cover at left back - we've finally got it, and immediately you want us to sell one of them?

And Donati was close on our best player tonight, in case you missed.

Mans called it, we need a Naka style player/deadball specialist. Not urgent but would certainly help.

I love coming onto this site after work knowing after we have filled our one big problem position at LB that there will be a thread asking what our next problem position is!

And at the same time some folk suggesting we kick Naylor out the door, leaving us with.....WAIT FOR IT.....no cover at LB! He had a very good game tonight, along with Donati who was/still is another player people are showing the door to!

    Gotta love it! :31:

Heh.. it's true. Not aiming this at the original poster, but there are some folk who feel uneasy unless they have something to complain and worry about.

I'm not worried, cos I think the team is looking OK at present. But longer term there is one very obvious element we are missing - and it isn't a striker (Scotty and Fortune will be our first choice pair this season) and it isn't a centre back (McManus and O'Dea provide adequate cover for Heid and Loovens).

Surely folk haven't forgotten that we just lost our prime creative force - Nakamura?

We have no-one else with the vision and talent to change a game from midfield, and this is where any other available cash needs to be spent.

Well, we may have a serious dilemma in defence come the end of the season, Naylor, Caldwell, O'Dea, Caddis & Kennedy are all in the final year of their contract's. Firstly, i'd be taking their temperature in terms of new deals to see who wants to stay and who wants to go. If selling McManus meant O'Dea would be promoted in the pecking order and willing to stick around i'd be happy with that.

In the short term, i'd like to see us get our hands on a free-scoring central midfielder, Semir Stilic or Anas Sharbini please Tony, both have a ratio of roughly a goal every three games.

I think we need some real pace up front to add to our options, someone like Seydou Doumbia would fit the bill.

If Mogga can get McGeady to regain his form of season before last on the right and get Maloney fit on the left then the loss of Naka is purely financial give or take his good posession in a team performing at a poor standard and his undoubted set piece ability. Otherwise McGeady and Maloney are outstanding creative players with pace and directness.

What Celtic need is an Icon. Not because he is required to beat the huns, win the league or perform in Eurpoe.......because we deserve an icon. We have good players and a few superior players........but you all know what I mean without mentioning the obvious players from the past. Maybe there is a legend in our midst....but until we establish whom......we live in hope!!

I have to disagree (well I don't have to, but I do, likes...:icon_mrgreen:)

Mcgeady and Maloney are good at running at defenders with the ball, but they're not true creative midfielders. They're not players who can put their foot on the ball and direct play, change the pattern of the game. Those are players like Nakamura and Moravcik, and they're very thin on the ground. But if we get a good one, he could well turn out to be the icon you're looking for.

I will never forget the best goal I ever saw at Celtic Park by Naka against those * from Manchester, England!....but his legacy in my eyes remains unfulfilled...a bit like Van Hooijdonk or John Collins....gave a lot but could have been sensational.

I think Naka was subdued in the end and offered very little....including his set pieces. Are we weaker without him? I don't think we are and in the SPL I think Mc Geady and Maloney will offer 2 creative outlets as opposed to the expectation McGeady has had in recent times.

I'm happy with what I have seen so far but wish we had a real gem!
