Hopefully we'll see a few new faces at Celtic Park today. Sylvinho being one of them. :icon_mrgreen:

If the Sylvinho rumour has any foundation then there's a chance it could be him. Realistically, if Celtic want to negotiate a signing by 11pm tonight, its going to be a lot more feasible to sign a free agent than complete both club and player talks in a 14 hour period. Plus, were it a transfer, chances are we would have heard something as the selling club usually leaks it earlier.

If it were to be are little Brazillian friend I would be delighted. I don't even look at the guy and think 34 or whatever, I look at him belting up and down the wing, passing well, taking up dgood positions, defending with poise and doing it all for Barce-*-lona. There is no doubt that he is good enough and he looks as sharp as a tack, a * of a lot sharper then Naylor. He has two seasons minimum left in him, he's no Telfer. A free agant with that amount of experience is a good move, especially seeing as the guy so far doesn't appear to be injury prone, just really quite fit - in a football sense, I'm not getting all flowery or that.

This is in danger of becoming another Sylvinho thread. But please Lord let it be true.

CELTIC moved quickly today to quell growing speculation that Sylvinho is the man Tony Mowbray hopes to sign before tonight's Champions League deadline. The Parkhead manager does still hope he can get another player - or players - in before the 11pm cut-off point for eligibility to play against Dinamo Moscow in next Wednesday's first leg qualifier.
Chief executive Peter Lawwell is attempting to finalise at least one of these deals, with a defender still high on the priority list.
But senior sources at the club confirmed it will not be the Brazilian full-back who is next through the Parkhead door, despite the 35-year-old's wish to wear the Hoops.
The former Arsenal star has just ended his contract at Barcelona, and fuelled the frenzied speculation he could be on his way by reportedly announcing he is close to signing for Celtic.
His agent, Hanz Lamberz, had previously confirmed: "Celtic are the kind of club who would make Sylvinho book a move to Scotland immediately.
"They are a huge club who play in the Champions League, and one who would satisfy his ambitions."
But, with Mowbray trying to drive down the age of his squad, and wages always something which must be kept in check, those ambitions are not about to be realised.
The Celtic boss has confirmed the story broken in these pages yesterday that he hopes to beat tonight's signing deadline.
But he refused to be drawn on the name of the man - or men - he is hoping to sign.
Real Sociedad's Xabi Castillo was a serious target for the Hoops, and the 23-year-old would have been available for a compensation fee of just £125,000.
But Athletic Bilbao have today confirmed his move to them.
Marek Cech, who was set to join Celtic in January until, ironically, then West Brom boss Mowbray blocked the move as he feared he would be left short of cover for regular left-back Paul Robinson.
The Slovakian is still very interested in a joining Celtic, even though Mowbray used him sparingly following his £1.4m signing from Porto.
But his personal terms could be a stumbling block as Cech is understood to be asking for £600,000 per year.
Mowbray said of his signing search: "With these things you get down the line and think it'll be done and you trip up.
"I'd be hopeful. The players need help and we need competition for places all over. If it doesn't happen, then I have good players here that can cope."

Cech asking for a paltry 12.5k a week is a 'stumbling block' according to Ronnie Cully...if true, that does not bode well if we're not prepared to pay that amount for a LB.
