No chance that shows boxing is the number one combat sport, Tim Sylvia is a * now.

Freddy Roach has said Arlovski, who he trains, will make the step across from MMA to pro boxing and he'll be gunning for the Klitschko's shortly and he's just been beaten by Fedor and Brett Rogers both by TKO.

Tim Sylvia has been the whipping boy of heavyweight MMA for years. Also I believe they agreed to only throw punches, so that immediately rules out the risk of Mercer being kicked, kneed, elbowed or taken down. Any semi-decent MMA fighter would turn Ray Mercer into a pile of blood and sinew.

Fair one, I never realised he was as old as that!

Still I think there's a huge question mark over the claim to the number 1 combat sport. MMA for me is as close to the purest form of fighting as you'll get as opposed to boxing which is the purest form of pugilism.

MMA fighters trying to make it in boxing is just an embarrassment waiting to happen.
I like watching MMA but it's a completely different sport with a completely different skill-set.
Arlovski will be embarrassed in a boxing ring too and it's a shame because it just gives critics of MMA more ammunition. Dana White isn't stupid - why do you think he wouldn't let Anderson Silva fight a past-it Roy Jones?

We shall see, I'm going to take Freddy Roach's word for it when he says he'd be good enough. You don't train fighters from Tyson to Pacman and not know a thing or 2 about boxing.

Roach is a great trainer and unquestionably knows a lot more than me about boxing - but I'd be stunned if he ever beat a top-30 Heavyweight.
I'd bet my life on the fact we'll never see him in the ring with a Klitschko.

Tim came in at 310 pounds, do you think that was a peak Sylvia? Tim probably thought he didn't have to train for the fight and got the snot knocked out of him for his troubles. I doubt Ray would win in a rematch.

Tim Sylvia has just turned 33 and was at the very top of UFC only a couple of years ago. Ray Mercer is 48 and was at his peak near the top of the heavyweight boxing scene about 18 years ago. This fight was under MMA rules, so im giving Ray the credit for a good win here. I respect UFC fighters but i think boxing is the better sport.

mma is no where near as good to watch as k1 which is always standup,no taking to the deck.dont know anything about this fight but if it was mma rules i dont know why sylvia didnt take to the floor instantly.
