If whoever takes the helm next season is not going to be a flop they need an adequate transfer budget. Obviously. Strachan spent a good £25 million on players throughout his 3 year reign at Celtic, spending £15million of that in his second season, splashing the cash on players like Donati (£2.5mil?) and Brown (£4.4mil - although good buy obviously and I'm not denying that he is worth every penny). Anyway, in Strachans 3rd season, he spent very little. Loovens being the most expensive switch for £2.5 million, while buying others such as Crosas for £415,000 and Flood and Maloney for minimal fees. The point I'm trying to make is that the difference in money that Strachan had in the 2007/2008 season and the 2008/2009 season is quite substantial and he spent less than half the amount this season than last season, so what does this mean for the new manager, who is looking like Mowbray, since its looking like the budget is decreasing year by year. I'm sure that since he is a new manager and all of that the board will give him more money than usual but in the coming seasons(presuming that the new manager is still here) he may have less money to play with and cant buy decent enough players and not win the league over and over again and be deemed a failure and new managers will come in and the process will be repeated and we could go through lots of managers who just fail to do the job simply because the board dont provide him with sufficient funds. Thoughts? :97:

Mowbray needs at least 12 million to make a good go at it in my eyes

I can see him getting 15 million the board know we need to spend money to make money this season as we will have a hard time getting into the group stages unless we do.

We usually spend about £6m, £7m, well we have done the last few summers. aad the January transfer money that Lawwell said did not get spent, so i think the new manager will have about £10m

Plus any player sales should be added to the kity.

Lets see come August 31st if Mr Lawwell was telling the truth. :50:

I didn't say he would get this amount :31: I said this is the amount he should be given to make his own mark on the team and get him playing the way he wants them to play.:50:

I reckon he needs 10-15m but im pretty sure he'll get 10 or less. Can't see lawwell or desmond putting their hands in their pockets

I'll be very surprised if we spend £10 million this summer. I would imagine it will be closer to 7.

who he gets in is more important that the actual sum he spends to me....if he buys wisely he could get away with under £10m easily.

Maybe they are keeping the £2 mill to put towards a decent player.:icon_mrgreen:

The budget is decreasing and yet the fans are still being raped over season ticket prices, 3 different kits, CL tickets....

The fans don't have a gun to their head telling them to buy tickets, kits etc...its a choice.

The club are working within their means, the way it should be. They will appoint a manager and provide him with funds like they did for GS.

Nothings changed - a left-back and pacy striker are the priority. If any gems crop up then they will be looked at.

I can see us spending about £1million. Come on, it seems like the board are stalling over the compensation so why will they splash on players?

because they have always done so in the past during the summer....

Stalling...perhaps not over compensation....perhaps we have other options....

WBA are saying they are waiting on Celtic...not us trying to chip away at the figure quoted.

Perhaps over compensation, which would show a poor indication of the lengths to which the board will go.
