Still think that if Celtic are to escape this vicious triangle then we must become the leaders in organizing a Euro league.

Erm..... are we a special club?.... I'd argue of course we are.

Historically, we are, and whether it was a time of Scottish clubs over
achieving or not, winning the the European cup puts us in a select club.

Support... I think on this forum we're all well aware of the world wide support.... I saw it first hand during 15 months working in the states, when I found out about the numerous and well attended Celtic supporters clubs. Wasn't all expats either. Might add, I didn't see too many supporters clubs for the the lesser EPL clubs.

Reputation.... Celtic are known out there. EPL & La Liga is where the current focus is, hugely so, but we're known and I believe respected. Of course managers would probably choose the big leagues first, both for the package and the challenge, but it doesn't mean we only big up the dross! Well except John Barnes. ;-)

Besides, I'm not a fan of comparing us to the EPL top teams... just isn't a level playing field. Yes, the EPL is arguably the current best league in the world, and definitely the wealthiest.... and amongst the other European leagues there's of course the giants plus a fair number of clubs with a real European pedigree.... but these days, how many clubs are going to consisitently mount a real challenge in the Champions League.... less than 10, I'd say, with the occasional outsider.... so in my opinion, we need to stop comparing ourselves with big few teams out there with their ludicrous finances (and debts)... and we attracted Jansen, O'Neil and Strachan as managers, so maybe we do have some appeal, eh?

course we are special to us as every club is to its fans . We have a worldwide reputation and players and managers can relate to our famous history BUT to be perfectly honest 9 times out of 10 its money and as we are not " rich " relative to our size we are hindered hence the clamour to hit the epl or some other project . At th end of the day its neither the fans / manager / boards fault its just as it is and until something changes with relation to competition or monay then it will remain as it is but it doesnt make us a bad club or any less special

For me it all boils down to, when money didn't really matter as much, Celtic were as big a draw and Man Utd, Liverpool etc etc, but now that we are in the * end of world football in money terms, people look at us and think 'Celtic, quality name in world football, but I wouldn't want to go there now, they are skint'

Everton are bigger than us now, even west Ham and Fulham would be able to attract better players than us. Same thing goes for managers.

Everton are no * where near the size of Celtic

    Im shocked you said that.

They have more money than us and a good manager

    but bigger-not a chance.

You shouldn't count being big because a television company throws money at you.

I agree with you in terms of history, but we are discussing the fact that Celtic seem to be struggling to attract players and managers who have no link to the club, and in the year 2009, Everton are a bigger club than Celtic, because they have the stature in terms of being an EPL team and they have the ability to give a player £60,000 - £80,000 a week.

I mean the example I think of, for instance say you are a shithot brazilian 24 year old, with no ties to any club in europe but you have knowledge of football. Wigan come in for you and Celtic come in for you, both offering same wages, you've never heard of Wigan, but you look into it and find they are playing in the EPL, and some of their players have went onto bigger and better things and earn load of cash, you have heard of Celtic, but you haven't really heard of any of their players, they don't command fame or a high chance of progressing to Europes bigger clubs. You would go to Wigan.

    thats what I mean.

Id hope there ambition to play in the CL at a high level would be enough to get them in

A way I always look at these things is what do you think of Red Star Belgrade?

They have won the CL and so on, but have maybe fallen to a bigger degree than football here, however I would still think they are a big club, as I don't know any other teams from that league I don't think

In my opinion Celtic are in the top 5 biggest clubs worldwide, merchandise is everywhere and CSCs all over the shop, I doubt even the biggest clubs Barca, Man Utd Milan/Inter have as many.

Also when you go all over the world the club is known and loved, especially mainland europe which shows that many managers would consider this a big job, no matter where they are, I just think financial restraints are the only problem - even the league is bnot that big a problem I don't think
