Celtic forum fans tell Strachan: thanks but it was time to go | STV Sport

The vast majority of fans at Celtic discussion forums have offered former manager Gordon Strachan their thanks for his time at the club, even though most are also glad to see him depart.
In a thread entitled ‘Thanks Gordon’ at talkceltic.net, member scottbrown8 said: “Just like to thank the wee man for what he has done. Although had a bad season he has given us some happy memories.”
Following other praise for the club’s former manager, Skippy_27 added: “Suppose I’m just echoing what everyone else has said but I still feel the need to thank him for everything he's done, the three leagues, all the cups and the Champions League adventures he's led us on.
“Good luck Gordon and thank you for everything.”
Rossidy also commented: “I'll admit to not being one of your biggest fans, but you did provide us with some magical moments, some that i will never forget. So thanks for everything you've gave to the club and its history.”
However, on another thread bankiebh0y said: “I was a big defender of [Strachan] but some of his team selections throughout the last couple seasons have been very strange,we had the chance to to bury strangers on a couple of occasions this season.
“For me putting Maloney in for McGeady in the old firm game at Ibrox was the last straw.”
Markybhoy99 was markedly more harsh when he offered up his opinions: “YA DANCER!!!! I didn't think I'd be capable of cracking a smile today after yesterday but I am well chuffed. Best news I've heard in ages! I am so glad Strachan has gone, I couldn't have stomached another season of watching his dross brand of football.”
Over at kerrydalestreet.co.uk, reaction was also mixed, though the vast majority of fans were wishing Strachan well even if they were pleased to see him go.
steviefrombelfast said: “I've wanted him out for a year and a half and I'm delighted he is gone. I do agree with those though that say he did try his best - he did.
“It would have been better for him and us if he had went last year but undoubtably he didn't because of his biggest failing - he always thought he was a much better coach than he was. We've had worse but we should get better.”
paddyjoe stuck up for Strachan, and commented: “I’ve never known a Celtic manager - possibly any other club manager - who has brought success in terms of trophies and progress in Europe and that has had to deal with the level of criticism that he has.”
Most, however, echoed merryjewanna’s concise sentiment: “Cheers Gordon, but the time is right to move on.”
