i think we sould do everything to get this boy on the books even if he doesn't play for a season we are signing alot of young talent and he would be the best addition to the young celtic there is a bigger picture here we are not getting the big players to come so start from the back and breed them in

definately some truth in that and a lot of people even say that McArthur is better. I know he is a little older but a quality prospect is not the same thing a a quality player. There are no guarantees and he is only outstanding 'for his age'. So a big bid is a big gamble based on how good he might get in a few years. I personally think he is nowhere near the player we could see Brown was at Hibs a couple of years before he came to us for instance. I think the max I would pay for him is 1.5 million. Put it this way, if it wasnt for his age and the hype, I think few would consider him worth more than that in SPL market terms based on the performances I have seen.

thats the problem every time, when an English club gets involved, the valuations become nonsensical from a Scottish persective.

The agents arent daft, as soon as the phone rings from an english club they can hike up the prices as they know they are daft enough to pay it.

I don't think it's the area of the team that really needs strengthening tbh.

Its OK picking up promising young players for the future, but not at that kinda price.

ok, hes the best teenage player in scotland right now and one of the best in europe - hes definitely better than john shrek. he has made over 100 appearances for hamilton and he is only 18. thats more than fabregas had for arsenal when he was that age. and aswell as being scottish (even though he plays for ireland) hes also a devout celtic fan so he will be easier to sign and will give everything for the team. also he is cheap... only a few million, imagine how much he will be worth in about 5 years time if he doesnt go on to become a legend. we have nothing to lose.

Slight differance between hamilton & arsenal
But scott Brown seems confident enough he would fit in so why not go for it would make a good partnership for the future

problem is right now he is only really good 'for his age'. He is nothing special per se yet, just potential. Celtic has been a graveyard of world beater teenagers who big English clubs were after too. The only real difference is McCarthy played for a wee team instead of our reserves (who BTW are probably a better team than Hamilton!). The best thing for him would be to do another year or two at Hamilton if they dont get relegated. By two years time if he is as good as all that he will have shown it and it will not be a gamble. I think it would be best for everyone if he stays there 2 more years, He is not near ready for Celtic yet. The max I would pay for him now is maybe 1.5 million plus throw in a couple of our less brilliant reserves like Conroy, McGowan wtc

I think Hartly should be let go this summer. He is done, as is JVOH.

Ferry is only back a few games after a couple of years out but is still really young. He had all the same sort of uber hype that McCarthy and is talented and most importantly costs nothing, I believe mini Lenny Charlie Grant is nealry fit after 2 or 3 years out. That pair were very verty highly thought of. WGS rates Ferry so high he stuck him straight into the squad and bench after a couple of reserve games in 2 years.

I think sign him up, we dont want to look back in a few season when he is flourishing for a team in England and kick ourselves. I think we have to move quickly to identifty talent like this and sort a deal out, we stuttered with Mcfadden and Everton came in and he was gone, i personally think he would have been a good signing. Steven Fletcher was also quoted as saying a move to England would be his preference so that deal looks dead.

I mind as soon as WGS got here, Ferry got a 4 year deal. He was only 17 at the time.

Unfortunately, I don't hold out hope for him and Grant. Unbelievable prospects aswell.

They've missed so much football, are 21 now and have more than likely missed the boat to establish themselves here anyway.

Its a shame, but just being realistic.

was watching sky sports news there, and i just seen james mccarthy saying he wants to go down to england.

he said something like "i want to be playing at the highest level, and if thats a move down south then....."

Those ratings of those players are what I think Strachan + co think of their players, not really what I think.

Ferry was put in that match squad because of the u21 rule, a rule which GS want rid of

    Reid told The Scotsman :

“I don’t deny Burnley have made enquiries about James, but it’s not right for us at the minute. We know how important an asset he is to us."

“There has always been interest in James, it’s the nature of the game, and we keep him informed at all times. I expect to see him at the start of pre-season training next week.”

Don't want to see him at celtic. Never impressed me and won't improve the team. McArthur from Accies is a better player than him.

I actually think he will. He won't play every week at first(assuming he signs), but over a couple of years, I think he has the passing range and composure on the ball, to be a star.
