I always thought that when liverpool came up for that friendly, the celtic fans sang it to them and the two sets of fans sang together, hence sharing the song. Not sure about before that mind, i may be wrong.

We've had this debate hunners of times. The general consesus was that Man U sang it first, then Celtic or Liverpool. I believe it was Celtic but Scousers and some on here think Liverpool. It will never be settled.

    * knows, it's one of those debates that will never be sorted. We'll just have to say Gerry & the pacemakers, although I don't even know if they done it first pmsl.

Aye, Did they write it though? Cos they seem to get a lot of credit for it.

Liverpool started it because Gerry Marsden presented Bill Shankly with a special copy of the song.

I imagine it would have been Rogers and Hammerstein who did Carousel, Gerry and the Pacemakers made it popular in the 60's - I'm sure there was another group that sang it before them as well.

Theres some great versions of the song out there.
Elvis, Ray Charles and Mahalia Jackson are my favourites.

As far as Liverpool or Celtic singing it first, it was Liverpool. I dont think we started singing it till the mid 80s tbh.
