Fletcher and McCormack both have pace and a goalscoring instinct.

JVOH has no pace, is relatively poor in the air for a big guy and doesn't hold the play up particularly well. As big John Hartson proved, this will be forgiven by the majority of fans if you bang in the goals, but he's not doing that.

OK, 2 in the last 2 games, but I'm pretty confident I would've stuck both away myself.

Like I said, I love the big guy, but he's just not contributing enough and hasn't merited a new contract IMO

Great Post ... Unless he scores a barrow load between now and the end of the season can't see why the board would offer him a new contract.

No one would like to see the big man kick * in the last few games more than me but can't see it.

If he proves me wrong, I'll happily eat my words.

Fletcher & McCormack are absolutely * strikers. Look at their goalscoring records then look at Jan's.

It's a no-brainer who I'd rather have in the Hoops.

I love the big man, proven SPL and European goalscorer.

    Sign him up.

You've got to look at the present though. New contracts should be awrded to players who are performing now, not those that have performed in the past.

WGS has a good record of releasing strikers at the right time - look how quickly Sutton and Hartson virtually disappeared after they were moved on.

it's a tough one to call,i've been a firm supporter of jan and personally i think he deserves his year considering his contribution since he signed but i think if there are any good replacements for a decent outlay that could use his wages GS should have a look...
btw,i don't think giving him a years extension would get us any sort of fee as january would be the earliest we could sell and he would be in his last 6 months almost:shamrock:

I agree you need to look at the present, but you also need to keep the future in mind. I'd rather have Jan and Skippy as our strikers next season instead of Skippy and Fletcher.

Fletcher isn't the answer IMO. If we're gonna be looking for a new striker, we should maybe look somewhere like Eastern Europe.

He obviously considers Samaras as the long-term replacement for JVOH, the jury is still out there in my opinion as well.

Fletcher would be a good signing in my opinion, but he aint worth crazy money, 2 million, which we allegedly offered, was plenty for me.

The problem you will always have in europe, eastern or otherwise, is picking up a striker that the premiership teams haven't already spotted, as we'll never compete with them on wages.

If we replace him it CAN'T be with Fletcher... Fletcher is good but isn't ready yet, he won't give us enough goals and has zero european experience, Jan has a ton, proven through and through, if we do replace jan it needs to be with an experienced pro, someone of good quality, not a mix and match SPL signing... could turn out like chris killen...

Fletcher is not Champions League material... he would be behind Samaras in the que for me, again Fletcher is not the answer even DEEK scored more than Fletch this season... and he wasn't that standard either, I trust WGS and PL to make a good Decision.

If he can keep scoring and keep up some form then I don't see why not but I think Strachan should take his time with this one has he got another season in him or just more time out on the sidelines.

The question should be "Who's worse" lol. Lee Miller, Stephen Fletcher, KENNY MILLER, etc, etc have scored more goals with lesser teams and don't give me the injury thing because that is my main point here. VoH is injured ALL the time and in every season. Not only that, but he can't recover the way other players can.

At the end of the day, we play much better with him NOT in the team like it or not.

Look mate, VoH will be injured if not again this season but again next season making him as much use as Balde who's also on a high wage. People tend to judge players on goals, ei. Killen but how can't you compare the two? Killen and McDonald were the best two up front in the last 4 seasons.

The headline in the paper today was "ONE GOAL AWAY FROM A NEW DEAL".
I think that this could be true, alot is depending on this game the day, so I hope he scores a proper goal (not one that bounces off him) and does so more before the end of the season. THEN we will see if he's worth a new deal.
