Over-rated players

How can anyone say Ronaldo is over-rated. He was the best player in the world last year and bar Messi and maybe Kaka he is close this year. That can't be over-rated. And I don't even like him.

Figo back in the day was unbelievable

You'd have rate Robben first before you can overrate him

Berbatov. He doesnt have a good footballing brain, he's just lazy and you were stupid enough to paid €34M for him, Man Ure

Figo never excelled as much as he should have at Madrid and faded away drastically in his later years there, no more so than the CL final where he was invisible. Still going but he should just be declining now instead of already playing poor football for a number of years.

I rated Robben for his first season at Chelsea, Madrid then went and got him and don't think he has done much since. But he gets a lot of plaudits especially from pundits.

I think Berbatov has an excellent footballing brain but after he didn't get his move during the 1st transfer window, his skills which went along with went away. Now at Man U he has shown glimpses of what he did in his better spells at Spurs but is over rated and over priced.

I've seen enough of Figo at Barcelona and Portugal to know that he's not overrated. He was immense whilst at Barcelona but the problem at Real is that he didnt stand out as much because the team was full of really talented indidviduals.

Robben is regularly called "a bird-brain" on RTÉ's by their analysts. The problem with the UK is that they are instructed not to slate players. e.g. Jamie "I'm really happy for him" Redknapp

You wont see that bluntness on the BBC, ITV, Setanta or Sky. They are all windbags by comparison. FYI, Dunphy is a ex Man United player and he slates Ronaldo when he acts the *.

Berbatov is just lazy and has been found out in a system where the forwards have to work like everyone else.

 

Berbatov is a poor man's Ibrahimovic. He's shorter, slower, has less technical ability, and is lazier... if that's possible.

We get Serie A here and I watch it a lot... I think Ibra just has a complete inability to compete when he's in an uncomfortable environment. Some of the stuff he does on a weekly basis is just outrageous.

 

Ibrahimovic would have to be my choice for most over-rated player in the world. Hes never stood out for me.

He's just not consistent enough and more often than not when it comes to the matches where he needs to pull out of those excellent performances, he's just average. I think its a case of him not being able to handle the pressure.

I'd like to see him able to handle pressure because he can be a very good player to watch when he's firing on all cylinders

 

Raul.

No player has benefited as much from better players making him look good. Anytime I see him play I'm left scratching my head wondering what all the fuss is about?

 

One of my favourite players of my generation. I remember seeing him as he was breaking into the Madrid first team and kept tabs on him ever since.

The last 4 seasons were not his best because of being played out of position on the left wing. The day they bought Ronaldo and * around Morientes was the beginning of the end for Raul. They broke up a partnership that could play together blindfolded and starting playing him out wide where he became ineffective.

Nowadays, he's the wrong side of 30 and his legs are starting to go. Like Ronaldo his best days were before most footballers peak but he's broken nearly every goalscoring record worth breaking

 

Dont see how anyone can say Stevie G is over-rated. Probably not another player in the world with more influence over their team. Has won countless games for Liverpool through either sheer drive or outstanding ability.

Player who are over-rated should include Ibrahimovic without a doubt, Barry Ferguson and Michael Owen (injuries may have played a part).

 

Van der Sar.. a weak link in that defence..I know you can argue about all those clean sheets but he did have a great defence in front of him and have never been impressed by him.
Walcott.. give him a few years before treating him like a *.abit ridiculous.
Quaresma - just cant handle the big stage..was patheticly bad at Inter and wont do much at Chelsea either imo. Although he may prove me wrong but just very overrated for me.

 

Lampard

 

Whoever said essien is over rated, you must not have actually watched him ever play. His absence along with carvalho this season is why chelsea have been so poor. Also it is a bit harsh who said micah richards was over rated, i cant think of any 20 year old centre half going about that are better.

In my opinion guti has got to be one of the most over rated players about, he has been at real for over 10 years and is really average.

 

Natural goal scorer against any sort of opposition. Really can dig his team out of holes at times.

I remember when Souness was first on the panel and he was visibly gob smacked because the others were berating some teams/players, not sure if it was England playing, but he looked gobsmacked that he everyone was allowed to speak their mind. I think he was waiting for some producer to be flailing his arms

The thing about the rant clip, I remember when it was ran live, they dont show the end of it where Eamon stands up and takes off his mic and * it onto the table and RTE go to a early break!

 

I rode names like Puyol, Figo, Alves,... and im scared

Puyol is the best spanish defense in more than 20 years.
Alves is not starter with brazil because Dunga likes Maicon better, he plays more deffensively, but Alves in Barça is a world class, just see a couple matches and in Liga he has gave 8 or 9 goal assists.
Figo was great, he is old now, but he played better than the best version of cristiano until now...

 

Puyol is a donkey and wouldnt be in the squad if he wasnt catalan and his name was spelt Carles instead of Carlos.

All the Barcelona defenders are average at best, Pique was a Man United reserve and now he's a regular at Barca, that speaks volumes about the standard of their defenders
