Simon Ferry has been added to the first-team squad for the St Mirren match and the manager paid tribute to the attitude of the 21-year-old midfielder, who has been plagued by injuries over the last three seasons.

He said: “Young Simon has been out for about three years but he trained with us yesterday and was truly magnificent. So, he’ll be in the squad on Saturday.

“That’s what happens when you take the opportunity to impress. If you’d asked Simon about his future last week, he wouldn’t have looked too far ahead.

“He’s been out for a long, long time and hasn’t really played many reserve games for Celtic, but he’s been terrific and he makes training a happier place, because he has a great personality.

“This week, he has been training with us and has been sensational out there. Because of that, he will be in the squad. We are always open to good players and people will get there with hard work.”

    Manager planning for green party

    :50: Good luck Simon

Gd luck to him. Always happy to see someone get a chance. If he's not good enough then fair enough but now is the time to see. I doubt if he'll be any worse than what has been out there the last few months Serious praise from Strachan. Must have looked exceptionally good this week!

He had plenty of promise, not seen him in a while though.

Conroy however I don't rate at all.

Ryan Conroy is in there too.

hutch is in the squad keith.

this is that 1st team SQUAD not the starting 11. he'll be on the bench with hutch & conroy.....and will more than likely be an unused sub....like hutch and conroy.

    Glad hes in the squad.

This would have happened atleast two years ago if he hadnt been injured - and if they diagnosed the injury properly.

Cracking wee player. Strachan actually tied him up on a 4 year deal not long after arriving - thought that much of him.

A run out if we get a solid lead would be fair to him.

Aye it does Sixtus, for a boy that was out of action for over 2 years it's a big boost to know that he's still considered First team material.
