What a stupid response this is.
The point of this thread obviously had a bit of fantasy attached.

For once it was a chance for extremely bored tic supporters to dream about who they'd go for IF they had £50 million to spend.
If we tried to put a bit of realism in it and they had £50 million to spend, we'd be buying 50 £1million players, cos we cant attract anybody decent.

So, getting back to the original point of this, i'd be looking for a centre half, left back, 2 midfielders and 2 strikers. Heres a few options i'd be looking at.

Razvan Rat (Shakhtar) - Top class left back, could and should have had him last summer. Would cost about £5 million.
Marek Jankulovski (AC Milan) - World class, obviously aint gonna sign for us, but hey, you can dream he'd come for say £6 million. Getting on a bit at 31, but a virtual baby at AC Milan.

Christian Chivu (Inter Milan) - Would probably cost a wee bit.
Walter Samuel (Inter Milan) - Same a Chivu, probably cost a wee bit less though.
Vidic (Man Utd) - Just thought i'd stick him in cos he's the best centre half in the world right now. May cost most of the £50 million right enough.

Matuzalem (Lazio) - Played against us for Shakhtar a few seasons back. On loan from Real Zaragoza and probably wouldnt cost too much.
Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan) - Would take him in a minute, probably wouldnt cost an awful lot (say £5 million) and will likely have a few years in him left yet.
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan) - Say £10 million for this guy. Quality.
Alberto Aquilani (Roma) - One of Italy's next big things, would cost about £15 million but will be worth every penny.
Gabri (Ajax) - Probably a bit more realistic for us, would cost say £4 million.
Hernanes (Sao Paulo) - Will end up heading to one of Europes big boys, but could probably get for less than £10 million.

Amr Zaki - Back off home from Wigan to Zamalek in Egypt. Would get him for about £7 million as he's not had as good last few months as the first 4.
Luis Suarez (Ajax) - Same as Gabri above, but could move onto big things in the next few years.
Diego Buonanotte (River Plate) - Bit of a nippy winger, not moved to Europe yet so could probably get for not over the odds. Say £10 million.

Missed plenty others no doubt, ones better suited to us that could and should be realistic options for a team like us. Alas, that'll do for now.
Or we could just go for Robbie Neilson, Scott Severin, Lee Miller and numerous other SPL standard pish that we've come to expect.

PS. If this was fantasy land and we did have this money, I can think of 50 strikers i'd take ahead of Mario Gomez.
PPS. Starting to get a bit tired of the typical supporter response of "oh we dont need any midfielders". I agree we need a left back, centre half and strikers more, but we do need at least 2 midfielders in my opinion, the difference being midfielders who would actually be starters and better quality than what we've got. And can actually create and score in the SPL. Unlike Scott Brown and A.N.Other.

I wonder if the Bojan bug could happen in real life! :56:

Realistically with that money, I'd persuade Falcao to come here. He wouldnt be cheap but he's ripe for leaving River Plate and attempting to crack Europe. A couple of European clubs were sniffing about last season

Taye Taiwo for left back is a nice pipe dream

Kerrison is on FIFA ones to watch this year, I'd give him a punt too.

I reckon you'd spend 50 on those 3 alone but would fix alot of problems

Waste of money if your going to buy that lot! Half of them will be retiring soon fs!

Would it not make sense to buy young players that have a future? Sell them on in 4 -5 years maybe double your 50m so you can have 100m to spend next time?!

    Out for me would go:

    Bobo Balde
    Joe Doumbe
    Mark Brown
    John Kennedy - Unfortunatley
    Paul Hartley
    Mo Donati
    Shunsuke Nakamura
    Chris Killen

    In for me would be:

    Rasven Rat - £4m - LB
Onye Apam - £3m - Can play LB.RB.CENTRE, Young lad doing well
Arda Turan - £7m(maybe more) to replace naka
Martin Fenin - £4m - striker worth investing
Jan Blazek - £1m Young striker worth a gamble
Marc Janko - £4m Another striker i know, but JVOH isnt going to last long and sammy has lost the plot, so why not the top goalscorer in europe for buttons!
Santi Cazorla - £12m Top creative player, something exciting to add to the team.

I've gone for mainly young players that are starting to make a name for themselves at smaller clubs. These are players i believe are worth investing in now, as in years to come they might be selling for a lot more but would also add to the squad now.

Anyhow just my 2 cent's worth

Veloso, his club want £15m +
Evra and Eboue, your talking another £20mil +
    Gabi at least £10m
    Vela roughly £8m

    We only have £50mil,lol!

Careful now, if you saw how McCourt played in his most recent game he was outstanding, did better than Mizuno. I understand it's taking him a bit of time, but you have to understand that the boy has talent, it's just taking him a while to get used to the switch from the Irish league to the SPL. McCourt will be a good replacement if and when McGeady leaves (which I think will be in 1 to 2 years based on his problems with the board and WGS). Give him a year to get used to first team playing as a sub and what not and he'll be great. McGinn - how can you even talk about him? He's been with us for a month. Jesus, you're too impatient with these players. I'd be more * off with players like Donati and Killen who have been with Celtic for a while and have yet to prove a thing.

i'd buy the MLS allstars, they beat chelsea after all! and they'd be cheap :50:

that's biased but I would sign kenny cooper, hes like JVOH except he actually has skill and is fast for a big guy

or with 50mil i bet we could finally coax robbie keane to come to celtic

after that it shouldn't be all that hard to get a decent LB and CB, which is what i would get next, and if there's money left over, a playmaker to replace Naka

could try and get frankie simek from sheffield wednesday, ingimarsson from reading, and i always liked kieron dyer, i know i might be alone there haha

He's playing well in the reserves..? The reserves league is dire, I've been along to see a fair few games this season.

Take a look at his signings in general.

Strachan's first season he spent over £8m on these guys:

    Mark Wilson
    Roy Keane
    Du Wei
    Paul Telfer
    Adam Virgo
    Shunsuke Nakamura
    Maciej Żurawski
    Artur Boruc
    Mohammed Camara

His second season.. about £8m again:

    Kenny Miller
    Gary Caldwell
    Jiří Jarošík
    Evander Sno
    Derek Riordan
    Lee Naylor
    Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink
    Thomas Gravesen
    Steven Pressley
    Mark Brown
    Jean-Joël Perrier-Doumbé
    Paul Hartley

    His third.. over £11m:

    Scott McDonald
    Tomislav Pavlov
    Scott Brown
    Chris Killen
    Massimo Donati
    Laurence Gaughan
    Jean-Joël Perrier-Doumbé
    Luca Santonocito
    Andreas Hinkel
    Koki Mizuno
    Ben Hutchinson
    Georgios Samaras
    Barry Robson

    This season.. £4m-ish:

    Patrick McCourt
    Georgios Samaras
    Matty Hughes
    Marc Crosas
    Glenn Loovens
    Shaun Maloney
    Niall McGinn
    Milan Mišůn
    Willo Flood
    Filip Twardzik
    Patrik Twardzik

What's the point in buying folk to play in a reserve league for a year or more? McCourt is 25 and hasn't been picked up till now. The way you're saying he'll replace McGeady in a couple of years when he leaves.. we're going to start playing him regularly when he's 27?

You do realise that Strachan doesnt sign players that go straight into youth or reserve setups. We have very much a continental style hierarchy at our club.
