Red Dwarf is set to return to our screens!



Doug Naylor will be masterminding the four half-hour instalments, and the regular cast will all be reprising their iconic roles. They are being made by GNP for UKTV's free-to-air channel, Dave - our new best friends!
Red Dwarf repeats on Dave - including an anniversary weekend run - have picked up remarkable numbers since the channel was reborn on Freeview, and it's becoming clear to all concerned that the show is picking a new, third generation audience. With the usual involvement from Red Dwarf partners BBC Worldwide, you can also expect international broadcasts to follow (and, we'd imagine, a top-quality DVD release in the fullness of time).
It's very new news to me - I really only fully heard the details yesterday, Robert told comedian/host Michael McIntyre. We're doing four new shows with the original cast. Two of them are going to be, like, proper episodes of Red Dwarf. One of them is so exciting I've been asked not to say anything about that because other people will steal the idea - and it is a great idea, quite challenging for us as performers. And the other one is a kind of behind-the-scenes-y... the truth. There's been so many rumours and gossip about Red Dwarf, about whether there's going to be a movie and whether we all get on, all those things... The downside for me, which is just dawning on me now, is I've got to do the 'rubber' thing again, which I haven't done for ten years.

 

Aw no! Classics should be left alone.

I have mixed feelings about this cos Red Dwarf was amazin but i reckon they may ruin it by makin a comeback

 

i dont think they can possibly ruin it the cast is so funny and know exactly how to make people laugh i personally think it would be amazing comon smeg head

 

Not really a fan of the series, but the episode where the planet is rewinding is class

 

Leave it as it was they always ruin programmes with re-makes that show was a classic in it's day.

 

Just for the record...

People who think this is a "Comeback" are mistaken, i read a more detailed thing about this a few months ago via some website.

It is going to be 4 episodes, and they are "Specials" to mark the 21st Anniversary of the show.

It won't be coming back for any full seasons or anything like that.

I for one cannot wait as i feel British comedy could do with having more episodes per season.

American Comedy = 15+ episodes per season

British = 6-8 episodes per season...

We're the best at Comedy why do we not make more episodes?

 

You cant really go wrong with it. It will be similar to the only fools and horses specials. I cant wait.

Feckin class can't wait and here's hoping it's lives up to the past glories.
The stand out episode for me was the one were Lister had to marry the big ugly alien bird, I remembered it when i saw Michael Mol's wife in another post on here, mol's ugly beeeatch reminded me soooo much of that episode. if i can find that one i'll post the pics and wait till you see the similarities, you'd think they wer sisters or something

 

Thats the thing that always annoys the life out of me. Sometimes you get 24 Episodes in American Sit-Com *, then Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones etc etc are only 6 Episodes and run for 2-3 series.

Still, maybe thats why they are classics, cause they werent done to death.

I am looking forward the the new Red Dwarfs, I loved the Originals and the books, so, if the cast are the same, and the writers are the same, I cant see why they wouldnt be good

 

found the episode i was on about Season 6 episode 4 -Emohawk - Polymorph II - A Space Corps Law Enforcement Vessel chases Starbug and the crew make a crash landing on a GELF planet. They go in search of a vital ship part and come across a village who have the part but the price is for Lister to marry the chief's daughter. Lister reluctantly does so but, on his wedding night, sneaks back to Starbug. The chief takes this as an insult and sets his pet Emohawk, a smaller polymorph (see ep 3x3 - Polymorph) on them. The Emohawk hides on Starbug and attacks Rimmer and Cat, taking Rimmer's bitterness and the Cat's coolness, turning them into Ace Rimmer (see ep 4x5 - Dimension Jump) and Dwayne Dibbley (see ep 5x6 - Back to Reality).
Ace decides to save the day and locks Kryten and Lister in the hold, where they will be safe, while he and Dwayne go after the Emohawk. They eventually track it down, capture it and return themselves to normal.

A wee bit, if the kiss track was a wee bit faster or the dwarf track was a wee bit slower, or somewhere inbetweeeeen.
