Wigan teenager

Celtic have beaten off competition from Liverpool to snap up teenage striking prospect John Marsden.

The 16 year old, who hails from the same Merseyside stable as Wayne Rooney, has left Wigan Athletic to join the Celts, who continue to persue a prudent policy of sourcing young talent from England and beyond.

Marsden scored 13 goals in four games for Liverpool boys, a goals-to-game ratio which trumps Rooney's own feat of 72 in 28, and also possesses the Manchester United star's stocky frame.

In addition to Liverpool's interest, Everton were also keen to take Marsden back to his home city and provide a pathway to the Premier League similar to that followed by Rooney.

However, despite the fact he grew up in a house outside Liverpool's training ground, he has decided to take his chances in Scotland and will, initially, be given his chance with the club's Under-17 team.

This lad was on the radio in liverpool last week talking about his move I heard about him while still living in Liverpool last year.
While home in Liverpool over christmas there was talk about him coming to us on a three year pro but to play in the 19s not the 17s and that it was Tommy burns who initated the move through his friendship with some of the Liverpool schoolboys coaches. While not described as a wonderkid I have heard that he is a great prospect for the future.

Only that he was on radio merseyside on thursday talking about how he signed the previous day I didnt hear it myself but our kids lad played in the schoolboys team a year below this lad and knew him how well i dont know.
I heard last year he had agreed a contract it was the name that stuck in my head wonder if he any relation to gerry

hope he can be our John Fleck. i hate to say it, but he is going to be some player imo.

I think if we were to sign a player like that, it would be immense. I know he is still a boy, but I don't think it can get much worse than our current strike force.

Scott McDonald is a nothing more than a glorified Kris Boyd, useless at running with the ball, has no first touch, useless at passing, and not much of a team player.

Samaras is equally useless at receiving the ball at his feet and equally as bad at passing.

JVoH is done, has been for a long time though he is good for the goals when we play well as a unit.

 

Sounds like a good one a decent prospect by the sounds of that perhaps another Rooney glad to see these sort of players being linked with us.

These players are going to prove the way forward in the current cash-strapped market.
It's great to see these bhoys coming through. If his goal-scoring is that good get him in the first team asap!

I think we have signed him , just that the press dont make a big deal out of signing youngsters
