The SPL is a joke, this league is on the down rather than the up.

see this other problem lies at the sfa ,change the * league set up ?
get rid of the 3rd division
make the premier league and 1,2 bigger also
have a 3 up 3 down every season instead of a * 1 up and down
play each other twice in the league
do what the english do or similar with a play off trophy to be played at hampden get fans excited about the scottish league?
we do this then there will be more excitement and interest outside scotland and we will be able to bring in better sponsors and earn more money for the football clubs.
    THATS WHATS NEEDED.

agreed, our league set up is a bore, does it matter if the teams you
bring in from the 1st division arent "in some peoples eyes" good enough
for the spl? two thirds of the present spl are probably at the same
standard as st johnstone, dundee, partick, livie etc.

thats the point mate all these other teams are not getting a chance to make decent money while this * set up continues a change must happen.....anyway remember when gordon smith was a pundit ? he said he would change the set up off the scottish league if he was in charge...and has he nope full off *!!

and as for the money some players are on these days, its a right kick in the teeth
to people who are struggling to feed, heat & clothe their kids. * obscene!

quote:i would hate it if some arab came in and bought us would rip the heart right out the club.
Thats already been done when we installed a war criminal as chairman.
Desmond is a billionaire who thinks nothing of spending £35 million on horse flesh but we could not even put up £5m for craig bellamy.

You cant take your money when you die, so arabs who spend hundreds of mill at Man City are showing more of a commitment than a billionaire chairman who wont even try to compete with the best.
He should leave and sell to abillionaire who will spend.

Ask yourself this' if you owned celtic ( and we know all about the share thing but there are ways round extra investment) and had a Billion Pounds would you worry about spending a couple of hundred mill to compete with barcalona man u etc' if so then you are atrue fan and if not you love money more than celtic so why did you buy us in the first place.

After the 2003 final the board made a statment the same night; we will not spend money on new players; celtic is a business and will be run like a business.
the following season we were dumped out of europe.
A business that does not invest in its product and lets rival products overtake will lose market share; that is fact' so when the crowds start to dwindle remember it was the boards actions and no one else that caused the current situation at celtic; not to mention the lies about share issue for train facilities not once but twice.
So if you would prefer crooks liar and war criminals rather than arabs thats up to you

desmond has to run it as a buissness he can go bust very quickly, look at chelsea not spending cause there quickly running out of money, arabs with oil wont run out of money but could walk away from a club without thinking twice about it. but i still think we need big inprovement fast.

In the league we are in we can't afford to bring in any billionaire chairman or that... we would be bust before you know it

The reason is that we will win the league with very few signings and are the best team in Scotland. Yes, I would love to see quite a lot of signings but even without them we will win this league. Probably with a bid to spare. Plus the transfer window isn't shut!!

I agree with you here, but that means the board don't want CL success. Strachan has won the league 3 times with spending little money, the board should back him up and set the grounds for a good CL campaign.

I agree with that, I am one who would rather we spend a bit more the now to widen the gap and progress little by little in Europe.

However, for this question I think we are not buying as we don't need to. Although I expect a left back before the end of the window, if not then we have serious issues.

I expect Garrido to get here, I would also be happy with a forward that's not selfish, has good technique, and can pass somewhat. McDonald can score, he works his socks off, but he also blows up some things. And we need a very good AM, of course.

You all say it's a business we can't just go out and spend money but don't all business's strive for progress for the next cutting edge thing(player). If we had the money to buy player's 6 years ago and not now does that not come under bad bussiness managment??

Its no big deal to me. Its just the 70s or 80s all over again when we brought throught teams of local boys and the good ones would play with us until theirmid 20s then head off to England to ger 5 times the wages. Sounds * but many of the teams of that period were really entertaining and the SPL was a * of a lot better. We basically just need to forget about buying established players. The EPL have EVERY corner of the world scouted so their are not many cheap great players even really young ones in eastern Europe. We should go back to our roots and bring through teams of Scottish lads Lions style who would run through a brick wall for the team. People ought to stop watching the EPL in Scotland. Its fantasy foorball played by playboy mercenary tossers. Its so far from the spirit of the working class game it laughable. I dont care if the standard is higher there. They have sold their souls and people just buy success.

I agree. It's like Arsene Wenger said (although Arsenal are hardly angels). Some teams down there are living in cloud cuckoo land. At least at this club we can say we are sustainable on what we ourselves earn. Rumour is now that Abramovich is looking to get out of Chelsea. Wow what a revolution. If his money was pulled then the club would barely last a few months on the traditional operating income. Those * - if a sheik came in for Celtic would we want to become one of the most hated teams in Europe, buying our success? Because once Man City start buying their fantasy team then I assure you they will become as hated as Chelsea, it's just gonna take time.
