So are we going to get into a situation where people from the North will be standing at the border telling Dubliners to '* off back to your own country'?

It's funny how a recession can put political beliefs to the back of folks minds.

Six Counties in economic turmoil - particularly cunstruction industry.Crime etc. an added burden. People from 26 Counties can at least catch a bargain crossing the border due to prices.Weakness of sterling is merely a further struggle for Six Counties - trips to Donegal and Dublin will be few and far between in current financial climate. 5 Euro a pint in Dublin with little difference between Euro and Sterling. Wages also a lot higher in 26.

so can we take it 'if' you were in financial trouble and your family needed the money for other things, and you were living a mile from the border, that you would knowingly pay up to 25% more just to 'not give to the grits'..???:56:

Unfortunately, as political entities and sovereign states it is not. The Good Friday Agreement enshrined this which was signed up to by all political parties including Sinn Fein. Not only did this maintain the status quo but the 26 Counties` soverign claim was also surrendered with the abolition of articles 2 & 3 of The Irish Constitution. Hence, The Six Counties remains under British rule and sovereignty. Therefore, geographically, you are correct but in political terms, which is why i posted(the fact there are 2 different currencies kind of gives it away) you couldn`t be more wrong. HailHail!

i think people are making a mountain out of a molehill tbh, ireland is in no worse than any other country. its nowhere near as bad as it was in the 80's, mass unemployment and emmigration, drugs and crime everywhere. of course there's a bit of a downturn but its global rather than isolated here, cheer up bhoys

To be honest I havent really been affected by all this craic, or anyone i know really.

Jobs are undeniably on the down with all the closures of Irish branchs of companies. However, i've been invited to interview for different job positions for a placement starting next summer so i dunno. Also, i see no change in crime rates etc.

EDIT: The worst thing is the * weather at the minute, it's wild! Woman in Downpatrick was killed there an hour or so ago, when a tree blew over and hit her car R.I.P
