Fergus McCann wasn't a Saint nor was he everyone's cup of tea but he was sincere, he had Celtic's interests at heart and he did everything he said he'd do. If we'd been relying on Jim Kerr to save the club, Celtic would not have survived.

do you actually believe that chief ? It was Hyped up beyond belief ! Do you actually think the worldwide celtic fans or scottish football would have let celtic go out of business ? get a grip, fergus did well but he was just at the start of the line for resurecting the club. If that old regime of celtic had of caused us to go bankcrupt then let me assure you there would have been a new celtic fc formed under any new ownership with the same loyal fans, millions worldwide ! Let me suggest this for one of a dozen options...............would dermot have stumped up the 9 million out of his billions to save celtic instead...............? erm yes ! Fergus only acted as a guarentor for our debt in saving celtic, the fans who turned up each week after that for the next 5 years saved celtic truely!

people can say what they like about fergus, but he was the one that put his money behind the club when we needed it most. He def had his head screwed on, we would all have loved him to have flung money at the three amigos, it would have been easier for him to do so. but he knew the club would have suffered by doing this and he was right.

He was right about not letting kenny dal anywhere near the management team and in my opinion he deserves more recognition at the club than what he has got. * rod stewart has a seat for life surely wee bunnet deserves that at least!

He spent 5 years putting his heart and soul into making us what we are so fair play fergus.

Maybe the huns might write him a wee letter to see if he wants to rescue them....

I was the same. I was very pro 'Celtsforchange' but a few years after he left I began to realise that he saved us from extinction and gave us a great place to watch football and a sound business footing for which to go forward as a club.

On paper you can't argue with what he did - he bought the club and left us financially sound and competing again on the field, for that we must thank him. He did it his way, which is obviously the way he conducts his business and it obviously works - these type of * are not multi millionaires by luck!

The problem was that McCann's way was not the easiest way to take for many, he was an antagonising wee *!

put it this way, how would you feel if you woke up tomorrow and the breaking news was that FM was to save rangers and take them forward for the next 3 years. i would be gutted because i know what he can do, all BUISNESSMEN are prudent and alway think they are right, FM was no different, who are we to knock that after all hebecame a multi millionaire because of it.:50:

i beleive he walked away with about 15Mill from celtic, from what i can remember of the time, if he had asked me if i wanted him to save the club, build one of the best arena's in the world, buy some top notch players and play some of the best football we have played even up to this day , and when it was time to go, he would take his profit but still leave us with not only the financial clout to see us forward but the team behinde the scenes that have led to the way forward were we are today( eufa cup finals, 8 leagues out of 10 from last 10 years, then yes, i would have bitten his hand off for it,

my one regret, if not embarrassment was when he got booed the day we unfurled the flag, when he made it possible to stop 10 in a row, still sticks in ma throat to this day.that i have to say was the biggest let down of our support that i have witnessed.

edit: he should have a seat at CP just for him, CELIC GET THE FINGER OOT!!

    Celtic on the ball
fergus mcCann had the balls to come in when no-one else did. . .

We were an hour or so from receivership when the deal was done. . .

One of my greatest memories of him, was getting to the heart of the SFA and showing it up for the anti-Celtic regime it was. Leading to the dismissal of that * Farry.

McCann will rightly go down as a Celtic legend. There should be a bronze bunnet outside the ground !!

Fergus IS the faither of modern day celtic

Put his money where his mouth was at a precarious time when many talked a guid game.

Stuck to his 5 year plan despite constant attempts to distract him from within and outwith the Celtic family.

Would never be interested in winning any popularity contests as it wasn't his remit/plan.

Dealt with the SFA as noone has done before or since and outed Farry for the bias unprofessional crook he was/is.

Personally I was ashamed and furious by conduct of the usual suspects at the unfurling of the flag that stopped the ten.GFITW-not all alas.

Will be remebered fondly by the majority of the support who can see beyond sensationalist headlines and knee * responses.

Await the unfurling of a 'bunnet for wee Squinty' statue and the renamimg of the North Stand in honour of this great wee guy.

Built our arena at a time when our great club was a laughing stock with Cambusdisney amongst other fantasy projects and the players on show an affront to our loyal support.

Never forget the morning I went down to see the building of the new stand on the way home from a night at the Subbie. It seemed a good idea at the time!!!!:bbpd:

A man of true vision and integrity.

Celtic will one day salute the fine work you did Fergus.

    Thanks for the posting.

Fergus and his qoutes always make great reading.

    Hail Hail.

Fergus, as far as I'm concerned, saved Celtic. We would probably still exist in some form but would be a shadow of our current selves. The fact that some Celtic fans seem angry that he made a profit in doing so makes no sense whatsover to me!

I would never say I've been ashamed of being a Celtic fan but the booing of Fergus at Celtic Park made me come pretty close. Still have a pal that prattles on about the evils of Fergus and it still gets me worked up to this day haha!

I was too young to understand what was going on in the grim days of 94'.

But old enough now to understand that if he hadn't stepped in Celtic Would not be here today.

Fergus McCann is a Celtic Hero in my eyes. Dispite of his faults...

Your right mate. . It was played down at the time. . It was a bit of a shock for the higher end of footballing society, if not society in general, that the bunnet took Farry and the SFA to the cleaners. It was one of the first times Celtic had stood up to the corruption that most people had either accepted or turned a blind eye to.

He deserves great credit for that and it has shown that we didnt have to take the unfairness anymore. It has shaped the way the club has went since then I think.
