Anyone know if he is any good? Just searched him and he's only 19 and his brother is the Inter Milan player Mcdonald Mariga

  2. He'll most likely pick a PL club. They mostly win the transfer battles with us. Unless he wants the silver and not the gold :bbpd:

  3. never heard of him but this is silly season now so we will be linked with millions more strap yourself in

  4. This guy plays indeed for Germinal Beerschot and receives plenty of good critics. He's a defender ...."a tough to beat" one.
Like mentioned above....Standard already agread terms with him but a transfer is on a hold for the moment, it'll all depend if their current coach stays or not. (this is what's stated in a Belgian newspaper today)

  5. EXACTLY, I hate the summer transfer window.

  6. Good to always be looking at young players but question whether or not we would be able to get a work permit for him as I think Man City struggled to get one for his brother when they wanted to sign him.

  7. We'd have to move very quickly then if terms have already been agreed? Can't see it happening.

  8. Celtic could be set to bid for highly rated Kenyan teenager Victor Wanyama but face competition to land the midfielder.

STV understands the Parkhead club have a concrete interest in bringing the 19-year-old midfielder to Glasgow and are one of two clubs who are fighting for his signature. Standard Liege have already tabled a bid for the player but Parkhead is thought to be the player’s preferred destination.

Wanyama was a stand-out performer in the GBA side that avoided relegation from the Belgian top-flight last season and is ready to move to further his career. The defensive midfielder has been scouted by a number of top clubs but Standard and Celtic are the frontrunners to land the highly-rated prospect.

The Kenyan, who is valued at around £1 million, is hoping to have his future decided in the next two weeks. Standard’s offer puts them in pole position to land the player but it is believed that Celtic will make a late move to match or better their offer and a move to the SPL would be Wanyama’s choice.

Wanyama started his career at Swedish club Helsinborgs before moving to GBA, where he has been a regular for the past three seasons.

The left-footer, who can also play at centre-back, made his international debut at 15 and is the brother of Inter Milan’s McDonald Mariga.

great news if he lives up to his rumoured potential. trust Lennon's judgement more so than the previous two managers.

no lol but i read somewhere that he was the main reason why his current club didn't get relegated in the Belgian league.

Cheers hammy, in his pics he looks like quite a beast. Seems to have been linked with Birmingham too.

yeah i saw he was linked to Birmingham and Newcastle in March i think. i know Standard Liege have had a bid accepted for him and there was a snag in discussions regarding the personal terms. think they'll only be a small window for us to derail their bid.

I don't think we need more midfielders at the moment. We already have more than enough and any more will simply create more frustration for players who aren't getting picked. We have Kayal, Ledley, Ki, Brown, Juarez, Freddie who can all do a job there, money better spent elsewhere.

But saying that, if this kid is real quality then you can't really argue with that, I'll trust Lennys judgement.
