Positive discrimination.

Discussion in 'TalkCeltic Pub' started by mygirlmaria, Oct 22, 2014.

  1. ....or whatever it is called.

Is it my imagination or are there a lot of adverts and TV programmes where the woman is white and the guy is black, or mixed race?
I have no problem with that, but it is a lot rarer to see a white guy with a black woman.(although i can recall one such advert)

You see loads of Asian families on adverts, acting like "westerners....doing westernery things"....which is cool, and i understand why, but you never see a white woman with an Asian guy, or even less likely, a white guy with an Asian woman!

The amount of newsreaders of black or Asian origin is very high also, (no problem with that as i still have a thing for Zeinab Badawi) and i do wonder if there actually exists a hidden quota.

I genuinely have no problem with the concept of positive discrimination, but i do wonder who decides these things and why if they do want it to have a positive effect, that they do not have Asians in mixed relationships in programmes too.

Sick of all this discrimination * whether positive or negative.

If you are being positive in one way that's indirect discrimination against the others.
As scenario above about white girl and black guy that is 'positive discrimination' for the black guy but 'indirect discrimination' against the white guy.

You either discriminate or you do not discriminate. Positive discrimination is discrimination. Ending all discrimination is a fairer way to make things right.

  8. I think I'd class myself as colour blind so I'd be against all forms of discrimination

  9. Discrimination is a lot of *.

You can go back a * of alot further than that

  14. The BBC has a quota, 12/5 % or something like that.

  15. Listened to Radio 5 Live have a discussion on implementing the "Rooney Rule "into English Football.

Guys like Ince and Campbell have been pretty vocal about discrimination in football. There is still a problem with racism in the country so to think football is exempt is false.

(Rooney Rule- The Rooney Rule requires National Football League teams to interview minority candidates for head coaching and senior football operation jobs.)

If a guy is good enough to be a manager then they will be appointed regardless of skin colour, Paul Ince was a * manager, Chris Powell isn't much better

  17. Don't know enough to comment on th abilities of the aforementioned managers.

    Off topic

The issue with football in Scotland in particular is that the same names are floated for any available job. Still too much a jobs for the boys network at the highest level and within the SFA. It will be interesting to see who gets Wotte job.

How is this for positive discrimination

Rochdale taxi firm admits providing white drivers on request

Car 2000 minicab company, which serves area where Asian grooming gangs have operated, says it is catering to demand

Customers ordering minicabs in the town at the centre of Britain’s biggest grooming scandal are being offered white drivers on request.
Residents in Heywood in the Greater Manchester borough of Rochdale have been offered the service after two local drivers of Pakistani origin were jailed for their part in the rape and trafficking of young white girls.
Stephen Campbell, the manager of Car 2000, which took over Eagle Taxis, a firm that employed drivers at the heart of the scandal, said that a consequence of the affair was that many white customers ask for white drivers – or “local” drivers, as they usually describe them.
“We have had quite a lot of customers requesting what they call a ‘local’ driver. A bit insane if you consider that most of the [Asian] lads were born in Rochdale.
“But it’s a business and we have got a duty to do what the customer asks us to. I don’t think we can discriminate against the customer in the same way. It is a business at the end of the day. We have a large bank loan to pay back,” he said.
If he could, Campbell said, he would persuade people to take any driver. “The Asian drivers are harder working, they do what they are asked and they don’t complain about it. They have a much better work ethic. If the public could actually see these [Asian] people close up and see what they are about, I don’t think they would be asking for white drivers.”

What a *. It's because some saw them 'up close' that they are asking for white drivers.
