    If this article is accurate looks like the English Premier League transfer merry go round is about to begin.

    Transfer news: Aston Villa agree to sell James Milner for £20million and Stephen Ireland and want Celtic's Aiden McGeady too - News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

    Cue McGeady to Villa with cash in return plus Nicky Shorey (left back), yay!

    Shorey is half decent and certainly better than Mulgrew, plus funds to buy a centre back and goalkeeper.

    And with luck due to the Man City clearout get Bellamy too!

    How often did he play for Villa last season? I remember his name being mentioned when Reading were promoted to the premiership a few years ago and received rave reviews, is he still decent nowadays? Would he be first choice left back if we signed him and does this mean he will be free of charge as he is included in the McGeady deal or would we still have to pay Villa for him? :rolleyes:

    Different stories in different papers. See which one is right.

    Classic O'Neill is to deal at the last minute and with McGeady on the verge of leaving Celtic he looks to be making his move. Therefore another option for Shorey to consider.

    Gav, time will tell if you are right. It is just a transfer rumour after all aka Sol Campbell, David James etc.

    Shorey may prefer the chance of winning medals v a relegation battle.

    agreed...a more experienced full back and much more solid in defence than mulgrew...think he'd do a really good job for us

    Shorey is 29 now and hasn't exactly been great since he left reading. Obviously he's better than Mulgrew (Stevie Wonder is better than Mulgrew) but how much would Villa be shaving off the cash part in the deal. I would still want £8m plus Shorey, no less.

    We would value Shorey at 3mill so we would do - Shorey (3mill) + 6.5 - 7 mill = Aiden
