Does anyone know if he is match fit yet? Although I do rate him highly, he has looked quite suspect by making a number of mistakes, and seems slow to react at times during the first few games this season.

Suspect? That's an understatement! He's far too slow to play in the Celtic defence. Hopeless in the air as well.

He's not slow and he wins everything in the air. His only weakness is heading clearances.

He wins headers but has trouble aiming them.

very suspect on saturday, looked to be more than a yard behind the pace

im a fan though, thought he was made a scapegoat last season

  8. Not for me... Past his sell by date slow and not the guy to partner big Wilson. I thought he was a mile slow against utd and his heading ability is shocking sold the goal for me with schoolboy error headed straight down the middle of the park instead of clearing away to the sidelines !!

what's the point in winning headers if you're not actually going to clear the danger? how many times has he headed the ball straight up in the air and just ended up causing us more problems....he's a liability, especially in big games.

I like Big Dan, he was the key part of having the best defence in SPL last season.

    Spot on pal.

Think he is a yard of the pace as is commons and possibly Hooper. Still a quality experienced Cb who is more than good enough for another season in the spl.

He gets slated by a lot on sat for his 'part' in the utd goal but recieves little praise for knocking down the ball to stokes feet for the 1st goal.

If we get past Sion think we'll see his true value in the European arena and he'll be up to speed. :shamrock:

Some of the negative/bordering abuse comments about certain Celtic players is poor as well.

I don't rate him that much defensively. But if what he does do is organise the defence well. Last season proved that for me. Whenever he partnered Mulgrew or Rogne they played better. But when Mulgrew and Rogne partner each other, kind of all over the place.
But I am uneasy when Maj has the ball, looks very panicky at times, or maybe that's jsut me panicing..

Yup, but at the same time... WE PAY DAN'S WAGES and we have the right to criticize him if he is not up to the task! Was it Orwell who wrote, "“In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act.”

Dan is slow. Dan wanders too high up the pitch. Dan cannot direct a clean header. Dan commits too many fouls because he knows he is beaten.

The ball comes off his shiny napper at weird angles and he stands too square on at times but apart from that I have few gripes with him.

He has plenty of experience and he uses it well.

I agree with you, we pay so we are entitled to are say. But some of the comments on recent threads is poor imo. And its infectious. Players aren't stupid they know when they're getting slated and their confidence will dip. Zaluska is prime example. Not Celtic #1 but no where near as bad as some people make out.

Commons hasn't exactly set this season alight either. Couple of decent crosses and shots but thats it Dan is the same Couple decent tackles/blocks yet he's * * 5th choice CB behind hooiveld and O'Dea.

Some people have scape goats and the Big chief is becoming (unjustly)1 of them.

Not really made a massive impact in the first couple of games IMO. He did well for the goal at Aberdeen and Saturday laid one off for Ki but i'm not impressed with his movement. Although saying that I wasn't really impressed with many people's movement Saturday, seemed to be lacking a bit of urgency at times. Not sure if that's just part of the game plan though.
Back to Maj, he needs replacing. We will get d*cked in Europa with him and Zaluska I think.
