Champions League

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by belaki, Sep 1, 2007.

  1. How far will we go in the Champions League?

    Realistic please! :celt_2:

  2. I expect a third place. (Hope for at least a 2nd one as well).

Reasons: We lost much european football experience with the departures of Lennon, Gravesen). Brown, Donati are inexperienced and have not been as good against Spartak as they been in the spl. Hopefully that's gonna change. McGeady has always been shocking against big opponents. JVOH has lost his form and no one knows when he's ready to bounce back.

AC Milan are stronger than last year when we faced them.
Benfica have lost Simao, but they still have very good players.
We will battle with Shakthar for the 2nd place. If we beat them at home and can avoid a defeat away, it will be looking ace for us.

  3. Benficas attack are better than last year (signings of Cardozo and Bergessio), but both the midfield (lost of Simao, Miccoli and Manuel Fernandes) and the defend (a lot of lost players to - against FC Copenhagen in the qualification they must play with a 18 year aged youth player 'cause they didn't get enough defenders fit) are weaker than last season.

IMO Celtic are better than Benfica and S.D. I will say we goes to the last 16.

  4. Quarters.

Will get through with about 11 points i think as i think we will be better away from home this season as we looked good agaisnt spartak in moscow and with facing ac milan last game, they should already be quailfied and we will get an easier game

  5. It's a tough group no doubt, and I think Donetsk makes it this tough. Remember when we met them in 2005 also in the group stage? They hammered us away and that's precisely what I'm afraid of, their strengh at home. Now Benfica is very poor so far this season, haven't even won a game in their league so I certainly think Donetsk is the bigger threat. If we can hold our own in Lisbon and Ukraine, then we are through no problem IMO.

MIlan, unfortunately, looks to be on top form so it will be very hard to get even 4 points against them, I'm just praying for a home win. One things for sure, it won't be only our direct results with the other teams that count very much, as we saw in that 2004/2005 group

  6. i think we can definetly make the last 16 and form there it will all depend on the draw we get... we have the best home field advantage of any team in the cup and though it will be difficult to beat a strong side like milan i think we cna at least get a few homefield wins

  7. If we dont pick up any injurys i could see us getting to the last 16.

  8. If we get something out of the opening game in Ukraine then I'm 100% sure we'll get through. Benfica aren't as strong as last year and Shakhtar just got by Salzburg. I'm sure we can get something there, specially with King Arthur, last time we went David Marshall let in some poor goals.

It's gd that our last game is Milan at the San Siro too as hopefully they'll be through and be resting some players for the World Club Championship the week after

  9. why not !! let them worry about us.

  10. i like we will get into the last 16 for the second year in a row. which would be a brilliant achievement. however if we don't do it, i will be happy with the uefa cup (third place) because of the high standard in our group. as long as the team try their best and we put up some good performances. then thats all we can ask.

  11. I'd say Celtic can get to the last 16 as long as they don't get destroyed in Ukraine and Portugal. It'll be alot better for you if Milan are already through before the last game, winning at the San Siro against Kaka and the rest.. Bit unlikely. The chances are you'll get a top team in the last 16. Unless a big team doesn't top there group. You won't get much further.

  12. you really think celtic have a better chance if ther not destroyed in the ukraine and lisbon!...thats some sharp logic

  13. I would love to see us at least match last years heroics. Consistency is what we now want to see in europe. We will fight all the way.

  14. Current Squad has no chance in europe we just dont have the quality,Celtic Will win the league no problems but the difference between beating daft wee SPL teams and european Top clubs with players worth more than our whole squad is a different story.

They over did themselves last season with last 16,but were very lucky too.I'd say there should of been signings made if they were serious about progressing in europe.

All the money talk and no spending..

  15. You know we could just have a laugh and vote for top 3. But we are talking serious so lets say last 16 or something. we would never reach top 3 unless a miricle happened.:shamrock:

  16. Just came back from the paradise, your support was enormous and it helped CFC to qualify, overrall the trip was good, good luck in CL! IMHO CFC will be 3rd in the group and may meet FCSM in the UEFA final stages again.

  17. In it to win it....

  18. If we get through the group stage (which i think will be tough) i think we could reach the 1/4 final! When it gets beyond the group stage you need a little bit of luck and a good draw. We'll give anyone a tough game at paradise!! think i'm talking a little with my heart rather than my head!! think we still need 3 more quality players to get near the usual suspects who make the last eight!!
